WARNING – ZACHY’S WINE AUCTIONS IS NOW OFFERING WINES FROM FRAUDSTER ERIC GREENBERG

Thanks I think I understand. They shipped the wine you paid for but never charged the shipping. Coming back for $50 or so in shipping 10 months later feels like nickel and diming / something they shouldn’t have bothered you with.

I guess I must be missing something. You didn’t have any ethical issue about purchasing from Zachy’s in the first place. You went ahead and bought a bunch of wine from them at auction, and asked to have it shipped via a consolidated shipment. Zachy’s went ahead and shipped the wine to you as requested (without insisting on payment for the shipping in advance), but didn’t immediately bill you for the shipping – and apparently temporarily lost track of the fact that you owed them money. And despite the fact that they paid the company that did the consolidated shipment, you’re pissed that Zachy’s didn’t write off the money they paid for shipping your wines because you spent a lot of money with them at the auction? And you expect the rest of us to find this conduct offensive or improper? Unless I"m missing some fact, I have zero sympathy for that.

So the issue is that they billed you late for something you owed them? Sloppy yes, but worth going out of your way to trash them on a wine board for charging you late for something you owe??? Wow. Not exactly wine fraud. [And, before you say that you did not accuse them of fraud, remember you did they say that you searched out the proper thread in which to post your complaint - a thread on wine fraud.]

I can certainly understand why this was annoying, and I might also have been exasperated. For sure they should have apologized for the long delays in billing and made it clear there was some embarrassment. Clearly it fell through the cracks on their end, which isn’t impressive and shouldn’t have happened. That said, I don’t think I agree that their delay entitles you to a pass on what you legitimately owed them. That would have been a generous action for them to take, but hardly obligatory. You owed them money. They requested that you pay it. I don’t think you have a leg to stand on here, except for some minor irritation. If it had happened to me, I would have paid it and never thought about it again.

Of course you are free to react in whatever way makes sense to you. But since you chose to post in a public forum, I will say that I think you over reacted, especially given you’d had good experiences with them before. To connect a mistake like a delayed invoice to questions about provenance and honesty seems unfair to me (note that I am not commenting in any way on Zachys or their provenance practices, only saying that your issue has nothing at all to do with that.) There are lots of things that are truly awful, unfair, sad, dishonest in this world. This was a mistake. I’ve forgotten to pay invoices before, and made all sorts of other mistakes. I am pretty certain I’d have shrugged my shoulders, paid the invoice, and continued to do business if I was otherwise happy with them.

So many people get SO UPSET over small things. No wonder we’re all so stressed all the time.

Agree. Well said.

I don’t see what any of this war crime of a late invoice has to do with Eric Greenberg.

Plenty of viewers are spending their hard earned clicks thinking that Don has discovered a new fraud, and opening up this thread ready to learn about obscure labels, and strange capsules, and misspellings of villages, but end up disappointed.

I dredge up old threads all the time, but normally have something relevant to the original thread when tacking on a post.

PS: Don - I watched Sour Grapes and was impressed with how organized all your wine kit & kaboodle were!

Disorganization is Zachy’s trademark.

I appreciate the comments. I wasn’t looking for sympathy, just sharing my experience and if I picked the wrong thread for that, my bad. I wasn’t trying to parlay my issue with any others mentioned on this thread other than the common theme was Zachys. For the record I paid the invoice when they brought it to my attention.

In the future, just start a new thread if you are off topic on existing threads.

Sort of drifting the thread a bit, if I were an auction house looking to expand the auction base, I would do shipping on a sliding scale going down to zero if you are buying millions.

That being said, I would never knowingly buy from Hong Kong. While I am sure Zachy’s does a good job shipping and storing, the bottles are still taking a round trip, and there are often glitches however careful they are. It is an unnecessary additional risk.

You specifically chose an old, non-related thread to bash Zachy’s for your “inconvenient” experience, linking it to and reminding everyone of other issues with the company. Seems to me like you’re just bitter and pretty unreasonable, as others have highlighted already.

I am always amazed at the intuitive powers of board members to interpret intent and meaning of a poster’s words. Instead of assuming innocence and giving someone the benefit of the doubt, they are immediately given the web version of being tarred and feathered for their supposed crimes. A great example of why I rarely post. Like much of social media, too many people here are just looking for reasons to pounce.

Like/Agree (hi Todd)

Jim - while I agree with you in principle here, I don’t think one needs to interpret over a great distance. The OP (who hasn’t provided a real name, that I have seen), said in the original post "I should have heeded the warnings from Don and other members questioning [Zachys] practices and provenance." So in his actual words he links his negative experience with questions of honesty and provenance. That sentence makes it very difficult to accept that his choice of this thread was simply because it related to Zachys, or that his complaint was, in his head, a totally unrelated issue.

At this point OP should just delete their post on this thread, as it contributes to nothing to Don’s work here.

If they need a website to whine (see what I did there!?) there is always Yelp.

Done! Good luck to all of you who choose to business with Zachys.

The toys you are now taking back were not interesting to start with. I agree with those who don’t like your placement or the content

That’s fine, you are entitled to your opinion. I deleted the post because it was apparently posted in the wrong thread. What a bunch of curmudgeons. I would rather enjoy Russell’s blend then waste anymore brain power on this issue.

Jeez, give the guy or gal a break! They’re obviously new here. An instructive PM would have been nice.

The original post was deleted by TT, but since it was quoted, it is not really deleted…which is funny [rofl.gif]
