I have drunk every one of these. Wish I had kept them. I did find the other day my stash of empty SQN bottles that I used to have displayed, most of which are depicted on the Winebid lot. Wonder what those are worth?
After checking CT, I find that I still have one bottle left of the 1995 The Other Hand. Maybe I’m not quite the glutton I thought.
Viader. Parker reads as if he doesn’t like her personally, or resents her, or something, as with Edmunds St. John. And the wines are subtle and need a lot of air and/or time. Tanzer loves them, especially the 2007 and 2009, read the notes not just the scores and see where he ranks them for those vintages.
BTW just so no one is confused by the title of this thread, this is not nearly a complete collection. It is only 32 bottles. There have been something like 200 distinct wines made by Manfred.
I used to be a big fan but I don’t know about the “needs a lot of time” thing. I stocked up on a few '90s vintages I really liked intending to give them a lot of time and they didn’t last. They peaked ~12 years past release, which isn’t nothing, but before they had developed any mature character. I have not had any recent vintages - maybe the vineyard is old enough now it has more staying power. But didn’t they go through some winemaking changes that may not have been all for the better as well?
As for the 1998 Sine Qua Non Hospice Du Rhone Alban Vineyard Syrah(now at $3600)….this will always be one of my….“what wine do you kick yourself for not buying”
This was my first ever SQN wine, had it at The Cellar in the Rio in Vegas in 2000. It was part of a Rhone tasting off their flight menu…I remember it being pretty good, but not the best wine in the flight. That went to the 1998 Per Sempre Shiraz The Lisa, which blew me away! Could have bought the SQN(I think for something like $65? ) but passed. Went on a hunt for the Sempre…managed to get a bunch off Winebid for $10! The reason…the '99 got a 64 from WS. That wine has faded…wish I had the SQN instead!
