Wait list times

After I believe a 10 year wait I got a SQN offer.

If you would have asked me 5 years ago, if I would buy when offered, I would have said no.

I am retired now and have a why not attitude about it. It’s only money.

That’s interesting! I just got off the waitlist after a near exactly 10 year wait. If you had asked me 5 years ago, I probably would have bought, but I passed and asked them to given my allocation to someone else who had been waiting. I think you were next in line!

Thank you sir. I appreciate you.

That is fascinating that they are down to the 10 year point.

Just got off the SQN list as well

Yes, I think so too. I would imagine that there are few out there (Screaming Eagle and Macdonald are the only two to come to mind) who have a list that long. In today’s market, I’m actually quite impressed that their list is as long as it is! They were cordial and at least they didn’t ask if I was proud enough to buy their bottles!

It makes sense to me. I was one of the early mailing list purchasers, acquired more than I could drink over two decades, aged out, and lost my taste for the style. Many of my cohort have also aged out and are being replaced by new purchasers. Rinse and repeat.

Congratulations to the Krankls for being able to maintain their mailing list across generations!

What caught my eye is the offer is Syrah and Grenache. If I only bought one offer, it would be these two wines.

They will be consumed.

There was a price increase for SQN this offering, so I would guess some (many?) people dropped off. I’m one of them. Also NoK got a price increase.

Email I got said $228/bottle. Does that sound right?

My last purchases last year were $190/bottle for regular and $280/bottle for EBA

Imagine how long that list would have taken to get on if you didn’t have access to a fax machine…

Getting on the SQN list was huge for me 5+ years ago. It felt like I cleared a stage in the wine world.

Now? Don’t really care. The prices and practices of some of these wineries are simply out of wack with the economic reality of the wine world today. Heck, easier to pick up SQN through commerce corner.

Can’t speak for those two but Sami-Odi was over 31K on the waitlist about two years ago.

OOps, my link wasn’t added on my original reply:

I could barely stomach SQN’s prices BEFORE the last price increase for the 2022 vintage, which was roughly a 22% price increase. I can’t rationalize their existing prices, but YMMV.

My feeling with SQN is I have waited this long. The money doesn’t matter. I’ll buy it, enjoy it or hate it, but it will be a part of my wine journey.

I buy the Estate Pinot every year. Family owned. Family grown. Family made wines. The Estate Pinot is a top 5 Pinot Noir in California for me. $85/bottle is not bad either considering their peers.

I’ve been on the Cayuse waitlist since August 2021. Today I got an email that “the waitlist is long and winding” but also containing a “special offer from The Frog’s cellar” - non-Cayuse wines like No Girls, Horsepower.

Seems like a decent selection of consolation prizes

I was about 8 years on Cayuse waitlist and now after 3 years I’m getting offers for more wine than I want, except no Frog yet. Will probably go a couple more years.

I’m no longer on any waitlists except for MacDonald, which maybe I will get some before I die. Dropping most of my high priced wine subscriptions and sticking to a few reasonably priced faves that don’t need a lot of time to drink.

It’s how I felt about Kinsman Eades until last release - swimming in (amazing) wine, but no Rhad!

The recent switch-up with their standing orders has fixed both problems at a go.
