Under vendors instructions, I put out a call on Twitter and facebook the other week for help tasting through some wine they wished to have evaluated from the cellar.
A few people threw themselves on some bottles and popped around to try out some wines and help me iron out bugs in my video making processes.
This one is the edited version (under 1 minute) of the 2009 Glaetzer Amon-Ra Barossa Shiraz.
Yeah, it sounded pretty bad and soulless. At least the video wasn’t edited to make the wine sound better (or if it was, these guys really hated it).
edit: To be fair, I remember reading a recent tasting note of a wine that sounded TERRIBLE to me and to some others, only to find out that the author had quite enjoyed the wine. That note included some very similar language, and included as many oak descriptors as any others, maybe more. go figure
I am not familiar with the 2009 but have had several bottles of the 2005 and would say that the video does not describe that wine. I found it deep, balanced and not nearly as extracted and one dimensional as is suggested above. I am not sure if the 05 or the 09 is the stylistic exception.
