Vollenweider visit with Moritz Hoffmann | The future of the Mosel | The easy smiling 2024 vintage!

I think the last vintage that Old Vine brought in was 2007. After that, Bob felt the wines were getting too expensive to sell. When I used to subscribe to WTSO, one day’s offer was 2008 WG Kab for some ridiculous price. I purchased a 4-pack, have 3 left.

I just saw that I have four 375s of 2005 Portz.

There was a long dry spell where it was very hard to get the wines. Managed to get the 2012 WG Kabinett, but it was several years until I could get any more.

@Robert_Dentice, we also visited by coincidence Vollenweider during our recent trip a few weeks agon. I did not know the estate and had not seen your post, but quite an eye opener - Moritz, who took over the estate upon the passing away of Daniel Vollenweider, accepted us for a tasting on a Saturday morning. Small estate (6ha?), 100% focus on quality, Moritz is handling everything on his own with some help (I believe a Romanian family is living in the house over summer to help out).

We had a good & open discussion, ao that it is impossible for people to continue to work on the steep slopes but ask 20 EUR for a bottle of wine. Costs are simply too high. Price wise, the estate prices its wines a bit higher than competitors. Quality is top notch. They sold in the past almost 50% to the US, he seemed to be trying to expand the roster of countries a bit. I also bought some 2023 Aurum ao, curious to see how it will develop.
