Visiting Skelton Root Wnry in Cincy

At the suggestion of David Schildknecht’s, I stopped by Skelton Root Wnry. This is a small natural wnry on the 3’rd floor of a warehouse. At their tasting bar, Kate poured for me:

  1. Riesling: from Lake Erie. Totally bone dry. Light R floral w/ lots of minerality/flinty/stony character. I liked this wine quite a lot.
  2. Chaselas: Spoke strongly of Chaselas on the nose but rather light in flavor. But marred by oxidation on the palate w/ a strong wet dog fur character.
  3. Edelzwicker Gruner Veltliner: This was an orange/skin-contact white. Not very orange in color. Some skin-contact/phenolic character in the nose & very light floral GV fruit. Slight tannic bite on the palate. I was rather underwhelmed by this wine as an orange wine.
  4. St.Laurent from Lake Erie. I liked this wine quite a lot. Very distinctly St.L w/ lots of plummy character.
earthiness very reminiscent of Burgenland St.L.
  5. Overall some interesting wines and showed little natty character whatsoever.
