We meet up with Mike at Envy and this was our final stop of the trip, and it was a grand finale! Even though he is in the middle of harvest he took time to sit down with us and go through a few of the wines. As always Myriad Dr. Crane was outstanding (both Elysian and reg.) but I think the hidden gem is the three twins. I think it was his best wine for 2011 (excluding the Carter ToKalons) and is now the wine that most excites me moving forward. The three twins '12 and '13 reminds me of the '10 Quivet Kenefick ranch!!
The one wine the surprised me was his Ancillary '12 SunChase pinot. I am not a big fan of Pinot but this was great. Typically Pinots have a funk in the nose and finish that turn me off. The “funk” was there but very muted. This is a must buy for anyone that likes Pinot!!
The visit once again reminded me of why I am always ALL IN on my allocations for Mike’s wines.
