Our visiting daughter Jessica and me ready to open the very last 2009 DeBiase Pinot Noir, Fritchen Vineyard. The venture by our son Thomas (who occasionally posts here) in 2008 only lasted a couple of years thanks to the Great Recession. This bottle was fully mature but holding up nicely.
Those were always such delicious wines. I might have a bottle somewhere…
Wanted to wish everyone a wonderful holiday today. @Pete_Lawley @Tom_DeBiase thank you both for your additions to the thread, and more importantly, for helping us raise more money for Laura’s House.
For those reading my post here, please help. Open Pinot Noir (still or bubbly) and write a note. It doesn’t have to be complicated nor will it be judged. Just post one. Every note raises money and if you post a photo with it, then you raise a lot more for us.
There are a lot of people on this board who lurk, or who post about the bottles they have purchased. That’s great but today, and through tomorrow, I need for you in this group to post a note. The organization supported by this thread helps real people, who are fleeing real danger, and they need us right now to lend a hand. Do something today or tomorrow to help by posting your Pinot Noir tasting note(s).
Thanks David, yes they were tasty. Moral to the story, never start a wine label in a great recession lol.
Good news is for the past several years he is the owner-winemaker of Jupiter Wine Co which is thriving even in this uneven time for wine. Apologies for the shameless plug.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Tom
My mug…
Visited Vidon back in 2013 this is 2011. It’s since been sold but previous owner had quite an interesting story. But onto the wine…glass stopper.
Definitely showing age but not dead. Tart, dry cranberry/cherry. My wife said it tasted like dirt…“earthy” I reminded her. Tannic dry finish makes me wonder if this saw some whole cluster. I enjoyed, my wife was not a fan at this point.
Great work/great cause.
Cheers
Chris
Good reframe for the wife.
Thanks for supporting and joining. Do another, let her pick.
This is drinking beautifully right now with some air. There is black tea, smoke, and red fruit on the nose. On the palate, The wine has a nice balance of savory tart black raspberry, and acid.
His 2011 Barrel Select is one of the best Pinots I’ve ever had.
Boy am I whiffing today. At least we’re getting money going to the right place.
2013 Under The Wire Sparkling Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard - Pop n pour, nose of bruised apples, first sip is sappy sweet red apple, sparkling cider, hint of chalk. Acidity builds on the finish but right now it’s one dimensional and uninspiring. I’ll let the bottle rest until we eat later.
2011 Cabot Pinot Noir Nash Mill Vineyard Anderson Valley - Corked
Picture was before I opened them or I wouldn’t be smiling.
@Brian_Tuite Man, get some Kutch or RM open!
@Doug_Uno thank you for joining in. Got some age there, too. Looks like a good one.
As for our dinner, we got another one open. My son-in-law likes the 2007 Copain En Bas better but I prefer the freshness and the juicy quality of Graveyard. After the horrible Meiomi last week, this Kutch is the kind of wine I would like to put in glasses and explain to people that this is how you can treat Pinot Noir with reverence.
- 2022 Kutch Pinot Noir Graveyard Block Bohan Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (11/28/2024)
From the Bohan plot, own rooted Pinot Noir planted in 1988. Just 4 barrels this vintage. And worth putting out there again that there are no stems in Graveyard (as opposed to the whole inclusion use in all of Jamie's other Pinots). Yet, I typically want to smell stems in Graveyard and even in this bottle it has some of that aromatic. On the palate, this vintage is juicy, and there is a tang to the wine, too. Kinda like a dark cranberry tang. This same cranberry note is in the 2019 and the 2021, so it would seem that this is a signature of the plot, expressed consistently in the wine. When this sits and aerates, the blue fruit really pulls through the wine. Dark raspberry is here, also. Finishes with some light structure around the edges, a dusty tannin that gives tension. Overall, a fresh, fruit juicy Graveyard. For me this is is the sweet spot of Pinot Noir--not encumbered by oak nor wood, without heaviness and instead just nailing the purity really well.

I don’t think this qualifies as it was a commercial tasting . But I’m still adding it to the thread! Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends (or amnesiac grieves as autocorrect first wrote).
Notes get paid. Got notes? Put em up and we’ll count it.
Yes sir! I just got back from it so might as well post them now:
Roederer 245
Some PN in there . Every year this feels more like a BdB. I liked 244 better. Still, enjoyable.
René Lamy Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuit Les Dames Huguettes 2022
Not very giving. Red fruited and lively acidity. Austere, slightly green, young and untamed tannins. Not a buy for me.
Louis Latour Savigny-Les-Beaune 2018
If I’m not mistaken this is purchased fruit, must and wine. I was expecting something riper. It shows some restraint but lacks character. Generic and not a buy for me.
Louis Latour Corton-Grancey 2020
Enjoyable nose intermingling red berries and ripe cherries. Nice balance on the palate and this feels remarkably integrated at 4 years old. Great texture with fine, powdery tannins caressing the palate. Good vintage for this.
Louis Latour Monthélie 1er Cru Clos des Toisières 2020
Dark berries, spices and licorice. Ripe palate but with enough acidity to hold it together. Good texture and pretty long finish. Good wine.
My WOTN was the Lassarat Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru Les Crays Clos du Martelet 2022 with the Latour Pernand-Vergelesses En Caradeux 2022 second (in 10 years, I expect to like the Pernand better).
How much does Laura’s House get for two Berserkers in the photo?
Lucky to he a guest in @AstridKG ‘s kitchen for Thanksgiving.
Strawberries and cream on the nose. Strawberry, sweet apple, tart peach. Elegant and delicious.
This is more like it!
- 2012 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Platt Vineyard Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (11/28/2024)
Dark cranberry, spice, mushrooms and underbrush on the nose. Dried red flowers, rhubarb, dark berries, fir needles, wonderfully spiced, great depth and length. In a really nice place right now.

I’m gonna need to work a second job with all of you. @Phil_T_r_o_t_t_e_r , now that’s the way to do it. 5 notes, times two with my matching donor, that is a $50 donation. @Brian_Tuite that’s better. And to @Chris_Seiber @AstridKG , how much? I’ll add $50 as the two of you together is priceless.
I love the thread today. Great momentum.
Sadly at my in laws and only brought one bottle of Pinot. Might have have a rose of Pinot … I’ll have to check
If agree to contribute $100 to Laura’s House can put this thread on ignore?
It’s got me digging into the cellar.
Frankie, in for a c Note regardless
Didn’t get a selfie, but here’s a note:
2012 Sandler Wine Company Pinot Noir Keefer Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (11/28/2024)
The color is fading, but the wine is holding up well, with elegant but vibrant colors Ed fruit and spice, it was a Turkey Day delight. (91 points)
Gracias. Appreciate you and your generosity.
