  • 2017 Vincent Pinot Noir Temperance Hill - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills (11/27/2021)
Bright red fruit on the nose and that bright clean fruit profile on the palate from destemmed fruit. With some air, a bit of wood tannins and spices emerged helping give the wine structure. Lunden’s red cherries, sage, pine.

  • 2018 Project M Pinot Noir Personify - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (11/27/2021)
Package with a mixed cases arrive two days ago and I decided to pull out a bottle to sample. Dark red fruits with black sour cherries, and blueberries alongside some oak spice. Initially the tannins felt very low, but after 30min of air the tannins—firm, but supple—started coming out a bit more, helping give the wine structure making it a much more toothsome wine. I’d revisit this in 3-5 years.

ABV: 13.9%
Closure: DIAM 10
Stem: Grassl Cru
Decant: 90min

Looking forward to trying my Project M Pinots from Newbieday!

2013 Lucien Le Moine Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Amoreuses

I was worried this might be too young, but only GC burg I had on hand for special dinner out (Smyth, Chicago). It was red, no bricking, but not too dark in the glass. The nose had showed Chambolle with a beautiful peacock tail of asian and baking spices. After slow oxing about an hour, the palate reflected the same, with a lingering complex finish featuring very fine tannins; almost no noticeable oak. One of the best bottles I’ve drunk this fall.
Les.Amoreuses.jpg

We sipped on a 2016 Rivers-Marie Summa Pinot over the last three days. When first opened it was very muted, surprisingly so. The typical citrus, red fruit and some spices were there, but way in the background. Ive had a number of R-M Pinots over the years and this was unusual.

It opened a bit on Day2, and really hit its stride Day 3. It was a pleasure to drink, but much more so after the first day. I have a couple more so we’ll get to see if this was a one-off bottle.

Cheers to all, and thanks FMIII for leading this effort to help some worthy causes!

Two more:

2009 Chevillon Nuits St. Georges Les Cailles- Decanted for 2 hours prior to serving. I’ve seen some comments about Brett in this wine, but not even the faintest hint of any Brett here. Ripe red fruit, earth, still very primary. Savory and very bright. This is very young, but promising. Very good.

Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Extra Brut Les Courarres 2015 (100% Pinot Noir) (d. 3/20)- Red berries, apples, almost a hint of tropical fruits. This is deep and very expressive. Bracing acidity. This is fabulous stuff. Absolutely fantastic Champagne.

Ive included a photo with all three of the wines I’ve posted notes on included, so hopefully that suffices… [cheers.gif]

Star Treatment Rosé of Pinot noir 2020
This is one of those Wine access NDAs. I made the mistake of ordering a case. UGH. It starts out promising, with a good nose of strawberry and cantaloupe. The initial sip is also nice, with strawberry, melon, apple and great acidity. But this quickly morphs to unpleasant and lingering rotten green apple and souring cantaloupe (you know that flavour of cantaloupe that has been sitting out for hours on a hot summer day? That’s it.) My husband does not get those rotten after tastes, so it might be my taste buds…
Here we are:

1999 de Vogue Musigny

So you invite a friend over for lunch and this is what he brings! Food friends and great wines. Decanted an hour and half before drinking. Really hit the spot between hours 2 and 3. Mid red no bricking, Initially the nose was definitely funky and earthy and a bit stinky. An hour later the stink was gone and a lovely floral and earthy nose. This bottle was (to me anyway) surprisingly wide open and absolutely wonderful to drink right now. Long deep plate of red fruits, earth and spice, complex long finish with very fine silky integrated tannins and lovely acidity. Keep evolving and developing the entire time. It actually tasted younger and fresher after 3 hours than it did when first tasted. I was initially underwhelmed but but the end it was a the full GC experience.

Thanks Wayne

2007 Biggio Hamina Momtazi

A wine of legend: mighty Momtazi fruit from the famous 2007 Oregon vintage (my third 2007 this week).

Orange dots on the bottle. Deep, brick orange color. Orange zest on the nose. Citric acidity on the palate. Coincidental? Subliminal?

This wine is drinking remarkably well now with a great balance of freshness and maturity, and as a result, it is remarkably easy to drink. Everything is in the right place, invitation in hand. This will probably last for another five years or more, but I think it is in a perfect place now.

I’m sure everyone has seen enough pictures of me by now. My cats continue to do their part for the cause.

I’m on the road for thanksgiving, but I’ll total up my share and get the donation in Sunday or Monday. Great work everyone. Especially fun to see the TNs on mature domestic PN; glad so many of them have rewarded the owner’s patience.

2015 Roca PN Reserve.jpg
2015 Alfredo Roca Pinot Noir Reserve

Medium crimson color, no bricking. Aromas have definite pure New World freshness, with red raspberry in front, a pleasant spicy green streak in the middle and something almost coppery at the end. This is medium in body with nice solidity through the middle. The flavors add a good touch of black pepper, there’s a hint of conifer that makes me think of the Santa Cruz Mountains even though this is from San Rafael in southern Mendoza. This is in a good place right now, might improve for a few years but will certainly hold. My import, so no score, but a complete wine, went beautifully with the evening’s mac and cheese.

Ok everyone, today is the final day. Any notes you want counted need to be posted b4 Midnight tonight, please.

2020 Big Table Farm Laughing Pig Rose, Willamette Valley - This is my wife’s fav rose, so she’s in the photo. Deep red color, approaching red wine territory. Watermelon and other red fruits and some tannins.

2001 Patricia Green Bonshaw Block Pinot Noir, Yamhill County - Dark cherry and cranberry fruit with considerable earthiness, maybe mushroom. Fully mature and in a good place.

2020 SchoneTal Cellers Sparkling Rose Pinot Noir, Bjornson Vineyard - Cherry and strawberry, very crisp and refreshing. Tasted like it was low or no dosage.

Frank,

Bravo on this year’s event. [berserker.gif] After ten bottles of PN in a row, I have to throw in the towel. I’ll send $150 to Laura’s House.

Chris, thank you. I feel like I have got to know you the past few months and seeing your generosity makes me appreciate you even more. Right on, man.

I’m feeling you as to fatigue. I’ve got a couple friends coming over this afternoon, I may open a Bouchard Val Vilaine and that is it for me, too.

Rodrigo, for you, OK. Midnight PT is the end. Well, it was always the end anyway as I live in the PT zone.

OK, I wrote my last notes with two wines, went to make my donation and my notes disappeared, so I’ve got to do this again!$#@#$!.. it’s worth it.

I had Thanksgiving dinner last night (long story). Went to Bonnie & Chuck’s for it, I brought the wines. Surprise! They were Pinot Noirs.

2010 Mount Eden Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains - healthy ruby color, no bricking. The aromas were excellent, fresh, with black cherry in the front, followed by conifer. The palate was moderately rich, solid in the middle, slightly lacy on the edges. The finish was solid but not very long. This lacked the vivacity and intensity I had hoped for but was still a very satisfying glass. Chuck, born and raised nearby, had a glass, took a sip of the alternative and went back to this big time. Rated 89.5.
2010 Mt Eden PN.jpg
2010 Domaine de la Pousse d’Or Santenay 1er Cru ‘Clos de Tavennes’ - Medium garnet with some definite bricking. The aromas were fully secondary, headed by red raspberry, with a touch of cherry and some definite sous-bois. The texture was relatively light but solid all the way through. This offered a lot of subtle layering on the palate, gaining richness by the glass and even by the sip. If this did not have the purity of fruit of the Mount Eden, it more than compensated with a broad panoply of flavors that got more intriguing as the evening went on. Rated 91.5.

I’ve got leftover wine tonight, so that wraps it up for me. 7 wines, 3 of them domestics at 10+ years. I am matching donations:
4 wines @ $10 from Frank + $10 from me = $80 donation.
3 wines @ $10 from Frank + $10 from Seiber + $10 from me = $90 donation.
7 wines @ $1 from Bueker + $1 from me = $7 donation.

$177 donated to Laura’s House.

Thank you Frank, first and foremost for your generosity, next for such a great concept.

Barda PN from Patagonia off the list. Tastes like new world Pinot, my wife liked it better than I did. Next time I’ll order the Hamacher.
