New to Virage?
Oh, your lucky V-day. What we do are Right-Bank blends in Bordeaux style from a cooler corner of Napa Valley. These wines were built to age, and voila, you take no risk, as the vintages offered now are all beautifully aged in ideal conditions at the Napa County warehouse since bottling day!

Primarily Cabernet Franc and Merlot; bring these to a blind tasting of Bordeaux Right Bank blends and you’ll be the hero. They are that good. Don’t let this ridiculous low price scare you. I haven’t raised prices in forever, and I just can’t do the picking & packing anymore so you get DISTRIBUTOR PRICING because you’re buying like they buy: FULL CASES. Shipped by my warehouse directly to you. I’m only sorry I can’t write you fun notes and sign bottles like the old days…

Back in 2007, I had a theory, and you believed. Honestly, they are tasting better now than any of us ever expected. Aromatic, smooth, supple, layered, rich black stone fruits, minerality, and so much more. That lip-smacking finish. I’m a foodie, a culinary school grad, these are food wines.

Why I’m back
For those following my story, I truly thought I shipped my last case with much fanfare in April. Our Ohio & Illinois distributors loaded up! If you live there, you can get ALL Virage wines and Bourriquot at the upscale, fourth-generation HEINEN’s with 20-some locations mostly across Northeast Ohio and Illinois. These stores are a wonderful shopping experience and their wine team is super talented. You’ll pay a little more than today’s offer, but you can purchase by the bottle.

BUT THEY DIDN’T TAKE IT ALL!

Your win. My financial partners will be shutting me down any day, and moving what’s left to sell at their new brewery–the LA Ale Works just opened in Hermosa Beach. Beer is an easier business for sure, I wish them luck. BUT PLEASE LET’S NOT LEAVE ANY WINE FOR THEM. I WANT Y’ALL TO GET IT.

More details on the website, but basically we set out twenty years ago to produce CabFranc/Merlot blends from cooler climate Napa Valley that would rival the character and age-ability of Right Bank Bordeaux. Reminiscent of a St. Emilion blend.

WHY Virage wines taste so distinctive… With these varietals, terroir really matters. Number one to me is the thread of minerality running through still-fresh vibrant fruit. Our vineyard sites are all on volcanic soils at elevation or on slopes in upper Napa Carneros, cooled by breezes from the San Pablo Bay. These sites avoid upvalley heat which spikes sugar levels (and alcohol) and zaps the natural acid complex that supports long aging.

I discovered wine in culinary school. To me, wine is a food companion. I want complex, engaging aromatics (hello Cabernet Franc), balance, a moderate weight that pairs with any meal, depth, complexity, minerality and that succulent finish…

Imagine biting into a ripe black plum…

These wines are phenomenal with pork (a roast, a heritage chop, a grilled tenderloin, ribs, bacon, prosciutto), great with lamb, steaks/tri-tip/short ribs, a simple roast chicken, seafood and vegetarian dishes --or my favorite, good bread & cheese with a good friend, the wine will evolve with your conversation. You can bring these versatile wines to any occasion

Decanted and enjoyed with medium rare, broiled lamb chops. Just a beautiful wine. Perfumed with lots of red fruit clusters. Drinking at peak at fifteen years. Everything is perfectly integrated and balanced. Very complex. Rich, smooth, lush, and very classy. Very satisfying finish. Should continue to drink well for another 1-2 years.

Flawless and singing now. Just a perfect blend, structure from the merlot, floral from the cab franc, long finish with the tertiary notes. In harmony now and I’m glad I have several more bottles.

…Overall a very well balanced wine. I told my wife “this is what CA used to taste like before everything went on steroids.”

2011 Virage - Avg 91.4

30 minute decant, low 60s F. Rich garnet color. Pleasant nose of earthy pine forest floor, cassis and vanilla. Velvety tannins, lively but well integrated acidity. Oak also well-integrated. Medium body, but the wine was light on its feet. Assertive tangy black cherry fruit on the palate, dark chocolate, bell pepper, mint, sun-dried tomato, a hint of vanilla. Lingering finish. Perfectly balanced wine. Really interesting that, except for the lovely acidity, this wine danced across the front of the tongue and the mid-palate, and only engaged with the rear palate.

Even better than my last bottle / drinking great now

Part of a wine lineup to go with the feast of the seven fishes. No detailed notes, but a lovely wine, and the best of the bunch. Well-integrated, slightly intense red and black fruits with a light, velvety mouthfeel. Long finish. May still have a few years left, but it is showing so well, why wait. Think my last bottle will disappear in the next year, and hope that I can grab some more on the secondary market.

Smoked a pork tenderloin, so needed something that wouldn’t overpower it. Here comes the ‘12 Virage. 1 hour decant and drank over 2 hr.

14.4 AC feels like 13. Restrained and elegant. Medium bodied. Nose of red currants, red cherries, roasted red peppers, some earthiness, fresh leather. After more time, the nose was more dirt than fruit.

On the palate, more red currants, black currants, sour cherry, red cherry. Nice attack on the front of the palate, slightly hollow in the middle, but a nice seamless finish with acidic fruit and faint herbal and more roasted pepper notes. I hate bell pepper notes in wine, so it wasn’t green bell peppers, it was something else and it worked .

No oak or tannins in play, in a really good spot right now. One bottle left, will save for 2027+ though I have no doubts this could go to 2037+.

2012 BOURRIQUOT – The Second Label – Total Steal @$24/bottle!!

Opened it about an hour before serving it with dinner. Very enjoyable on pop & pour, got better as the evening went along, no sign of going downhill.

1/4/2025 - CurtaVino Likes this wine:91 Points

Right in its window now. Well-blended flavors that are not over the top but layered perfectly with the acidity. Tannins are still there but have mellowed a bit. All of which makes the wine a joy to drink.

PAPER CHECK: Sure, mail a check! I get dozens of them. The confirmation will give you the mailing address or email/PM me! Choose “Check by Mail” where you’ll get bullied again to use Zelle

SHIPPING DETAILS:

THEY’LL SHIP STRAIGHT FROM THE WAREHOUSE so for most of you that likely means September/October, but you can fly them sooner by 2Day Air or Overnight, subject to winemaker permission. The Air prices will live stream in your order process, God willing

OR YOU CAN PICK UP at the warehouse in American Canyon, choose SHIPPING METHOD “Winery Pickup.”

Y’all know I cannot bear great wine to suffer heat. My nightmare is your wine spends a warm afternoon trundling about, top of the pile, on the local FedEx truck if your driver happens to arrive when you’re walking the dog… then parks in the sun for lunch, then best case it spends an entire second day on the delivery truck or worst case, FedEx randomly ships back to sender, to somewhere I may not be. It happens too often.

Accordingly, please ship to a business where folks can sign for you, any business! If your business is in CA, I can ship SOME orders in original packaging by Zephyr, so that’s fun. But you can always ship to "Hold” at a FedEx pickup site near you! Not only do we eliminate risk of missed delivery, we save $7-$10 per BOX in Residential Surcharge. I can email you the closest 3 hold locations when I create your label—they pop right up after I enter an address. FedEx holds FIVE (5) days starting delivery day in temp-controlled comfort.

STATES:

The Virage website notes in more detail where we cannot ship - MI, TN, UT, the usual suspects. PM me with any questions. Remember, if you buy wine in California, and ship it to yourself from California after securing local CA storage, like 55 Degrees or Stagecoach in Napa, or UOVO (love them) in American Canyon, you can do as you like with your wines.

Stock up!

PM or text questions! I’ll be watching the forum. Y’all are the best!! I’m transitioning to my personal email, as the website will go down once my partners drop the hammer on me.

Emily, I am getting errors when trying to click on the vintages:
2010 Bordeaux Blend
2011 Bordeaux Blend
2012 Bordeaux Blend

That is stopping me in my tracks but very interested in one of those cases.

Doug

Well that’s not good. Always something -

Lemme look!!!

made it through the vintage but now am getting “coupon code “VIN50” is not valid”. And, yes, I did select the Case of 12 format. Sorry to be a pain here.

And to be clear, I made it through the 2010 Bordeaux Blend vintage, the 2011 and 2012 are still giving me errors.

Doug, thank you so much for being the beta-tester. YOU are not a pain; Volusion is a pain. OK,

–the “LIBRARY” listings along left side of 2010, 2011, 2012 vintages - links were all broken. Who knew, had to recruit tech support help. WORKING NOW :white_check_mark:

–I eliminated a BUNCH of sold-out wines, so now you can SORT prioducts by “Availability” and the wines in this offer all show up on first page, whew :white_check_mark:

–Fixed the VIN50 code, I tested it!! :white_check_mark:

Yay!!! A perfect order just came through. I’m impressed full-case shipping to CO is only $31, something clearly off in my “live rates.” But it’s fine. CONGRATS!! You’ll love these. I think I know who your friend might be, he’s been sharing 2010 Virage, and expanding my client list, for a couple years now

Hey Emily. Thanks for the assistance today.

I am trying to pay via Zelle but it keeps getting declined so I need to call my contact center (I actually work at my financial institution) to see what is going on. I will let you know when I have the payment sent.

And, how did you know o have a friend that introduced me to your wines?

Thank you,
Doug

I just have cross-country antennae like that :orange_heart: . Doug, some member banks have an issue with the business name. Our bank (First Republic) was purchased by Chase and all hell broke loose. You used to be able to set up with VIRAGE as the business name, now must submit with CONFIDENTIAL VINTNERS (our LLC name, licensed before I invented the brand name), maybe even needs CONFIDENTIAL VINTNERS LLC and my email address. Sometimes, they just take a day to go through. Will be curious what your peeps say. You’re the first this month, but I had a few successful last month so SHOULD be working.

Thanks Emily. The issue is on our end. I’m told it has been corrected and will try again as soon as I get to the airport. I’ll let you know.

By the way, was our mutual friend named Rick? Just curious.

Order in, these wines are in a fantastic spot right now, pop and pour

Thanks so much Chris! Really glad you scored a case. Meanwhile, always a challenge with this ecommerce platform, your order definitely shows my FedEx live rates are not working!!! Will reply with details by email, need to bump up your shipping to the flat rate I offered, cuz to your state will be double that. No idea how it calculated $15. Turned off Home Delivery until I sort it out. Maybe somehow the system is seeing 1 case as 1 bottle

Yep! And no rush on the Zelle.

Buy with confidence. The 2012 is my favorite and has many years of life. I’ve got one standing up in my cellar but it is too frickin’ hot at the moment.

In and in a big way!!! The 2010 was fantastic two weeks ago! Slightly better (a bit more complex and structured) in our opinion than the 2012. Both excellent. Also, don’t sleep on the BOURRIQUOT!!! Cheers to Emily!

In for the Bourriquot. Can’t pass this up. Was down to my last bottle.
Zelle completed. So glad to hear the others are at Heinen’s.
Let me know if anything is wrong with the order or the FedEx ship to address.

Sure am glad I get one last opportunity to get some Virage. Our favorite is the 2010. For my taste, it is good upon opening, but it really hits its stride around the 3-4 hour mark (thanks for the tip Emily!) and continues to improve through 6 hrs. Rich and round, all class. Don’t miss out.

Indeed, I received a nice note, and a perfectly executed order, thank you very much. I love how wine love spreads!!

Hi all - with SHIPPING, the idea is that your maximum will be $36.00 but it’s pretty much a minimum. Yesterday, most of the day, FedEx Live Rates were not consistent; for example it showed a NJ resident $15/case which we all know is closer to $65, and $70+ for Home Delivery. I killed the Home Delivery option. And will kill the regular ground delivery option as well if I keep seeing those come through. And I’ll be going through and tweaking the orders to $36/case anywhere but say northern California where it’s CONCEIVABLY possible shipping is less than $36. Please save us the hassle if while you’re ordering, FedEx glitches out and shows absurd estimates. I can’t seem to nail down what’s going on with the Volusion–FedEx connection here… SORRY!

In a big way is an understatement! I am nominating you for King of the day!! Remember y’all back when we did that?
