And John, I’ll take the opportunity to hijack my own thread and ask what vintage of Woodlands “Margaret” you had that you enjoyed so much? I asked in the previous thread but didn’t get a response.

As noted previously, Hock is a British references to Rieslings from of Germany. The term dates at least back to Shakespeare days as he refers to both at different times. (edited to remove a reference to “Sack”).

Drew mentioned the term “blackstrap”. That term was used in the 19th and early 20th century to describe Port, referring to molasses, which is why it’s used with rum too.

Duh, you’re absolutely correct. I had a brain fart there for a minute. Shakespeare does refer to both.
