Vinous worth it - or should I look elsewhere?

I’ve been debating signing up for a while. I’ve been reading Rajat Parr’s book and really enjoy his take on different producers. I’d imagine I’d get more of that on Vinous. I find enjoyment hearing about the stories behind the vineyards and hearing about up and comers in the industry.

I’m starting to have problems with chrome and the forums… can’t see them load at all. Used to only have this problem with Safari. Anyone else have the same issue?

I agree with John, well said.

I did and reached out to support. There was a setting on my account that they fixed. No issues now.

Great, thanks. They fixed it. Not sure why just some users had a problem. I assumed it would get fixed if I just waited a day or two, but kind of annoying that they make everyone with the problem get in touch with them individually to reset their account.

The issue with your account is unrelated to Chrome. At some point, your subscription lapsed. When you went to renew (thank you  ) you did so by setting up a new account with a different email, which created an issue for the forum. What we did is fix a setting on the back end so that all of your previous forum activity is not lost but is now linked with your new email.

Got it, thanks for the explanation. The timing is odd though, because the new account/forum had been working after I subscribed for a week or two before it suddenly stopped working. Anyway, happy to have it back. Love reading all the tasting notes and comments on the Vinous Forum!

I’ve been a subscriber to Vinous for many years now and find it to be a rock steady and consistently valuable resource. The writing is high quality and I almost always come away from reviews with a good feel for which wines will match my palate and interests. And there’s a lot of other fascinating material beyond wine reviews. Neal Martin is quirky but his in depth vertical tastings always include lots of historical detail which I find fascinating. His annual blind reviews of Bordeaux are probably my favorite material about that region.

However, I have to disagree that Vinous is only or even primarily useful for Italy. Yes, they go gloriously deep and wide on Italy - where else can I find reviews of not only Barolo, Barbaresco and Brunello, but also a dozen plus other regions of Italy from Alto Adige to Sicily. However, I find Vinous extremely helpful for Germany (yes hideously late), Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhône, Champagne, Napa, Sonoma, and Oregon. I don’t pay much attention to Australia, S. America, the rest of California, Austria, Spain, South Africa, etc. etc. the list goes on. I would say that Vinous’ biggest problem is that it crushes my will power and makes my cellar explode with interesting wine.

Vinous’ Your Say user forum is much less active than this web site (and yes I use both) but is extremely polite, useful, and friendly. It has a more European tilt, and I enjoy the POV from many experienced tasters across the pond.

That’s good to know, and a great resource. I know Antonio posts here(obviously), and have greatly appreciated that aspect to WB.

That being said, we don’t have nearly as many winemakers participating on Vinous as do here. i know it can take a pretty thick skin as a winemaker to be a board participant, but it would be great to have folks like you, or Jim, or any number of other folks participating there. (Hey, Antonio–maybe consider giving winemakers/producers who are willing to be active participants a gratis intro subscription?).

Signed up this year and I love it!

For broader wine knowledge, with some reviews, Decanter (a British publication) is pretty informative. They cover the world of wine well. I subscribed for 12 years or so, but got behind in my magazine reading… and getting kinda expensive. it was like ~$100/year.
