Great story and reporting Miran, really over the top. You’ve inspired me to hold on to my Romirasco’s and add a few more.
The reason behind the scores has been laid out pretty well here, they don’t have much to do with the quality or style of the wines. Though for additional details you may need to be at the right tasting or dinner party with the right insider/s.
I guess that it is natural to want to believe perception of wine can be objective, but it’s not. If it was, aroma and taste profiles would not vary so wildly. But to suggest or assert nefarious reasons for a person’s OPINION about a wine is shameful.
I’m not sure why all of you are jumping on Robert. He is simply stating what many other people are implying in this thread.
I have no idea why the scores were given like they were, or why Antonio chose the words he used.
I will simply reassert that wine reviewers are very careful with the words that they choose, and oftentimes they’re chosen to reaffirm scores or statements made elsewhere.
To imply that Robert or anyone else is ‘assuming incorrectly’ is, in fact, incorrect to me.
And this entire thread and much of what is discussed on this board could be categorized as gossip as well. That’s not a bad thing, is it?
I have no idea whether Antonio tastes blind or not. Very few reviewers seem to taste blind, and many do as Antonio does and actually taste at the winery with the winemakers and or owners. It would be nice for consumers to know the setting in which wines were tasted, no? At an office, at the winery with the winemaker, at a ‘mass tasting’, etc. This ‘context’ could certainly ‘affect’ how a wine is viewed, no?
And I’m not stuck at any specific word or words that he used. I was talking about reviewers in general and the fact that they are very careful with the words that they use. That’s all.
I wonder if RMP had posted this score when all others had reviewed it glowingly and said the same thing - would people react in the same manner here? Hmmmm.
Kyle if you read AGs notes and take into account the rather witty jokes that are included in Mirans post you can draw a pretty clear picture for yourself
News to me - tell me! I used to work with the looser previously responsible for the US sales of Aldo Conterno, Andrea Carelli. I think his company’s name was Carelli Video, or similar. He run a very respected family company into bankruptcy and in the end, many weird deals were made. And yes, he seriously dumped prices on AC vintages 2004-2005-2006, especially to the US. And those deals has harmed the AC brand.
