Got the email. $1200 per bag. As if my wine habit isn’t expensive enough. Any takers?
Looks cool, but my jaw hit the floor at the price. Given that I’ve left 3-4 totes in restaurants before, there’s no way I’d buy it unless it was $29.99 or less
Price is INSANE
Now I know for sure that I don’t belong on Vinous.
A Vinous exclusive – a wine tote for only $1,200.
Over the top to me, but who am I to judge?
Limit two per person
I would totally get one if it came with a case of 1996 Krug. Otherwise I’ll go ahead and use the free canvas bag I got at a conference and buy more wine.
I guess James doesn’t have a monopoly on that market anymore…
I love Antonio Galloni, but I actually laughed out loud, in a crowded NYC cafe, when i read the price.
Free ground shipping…that sold me, I ordered one.
No worries, Pat. You can have my allocation.
One born every minute.
Or you could buy about 40 of the classic trade bags from chill-n-go.
Is that 2 total, or 2 of each of the two colors available?
Jim Macho
Regrettably, it is a bit James Suckling.
I appreciate everyone’s feedback.
Our focus is on generating content on a state of the art platform. The tote project is meant to be fun and different, but it is not a core part of what we are all about, nor will it be. A number of readers inquired about these totes after a video I did last year, so we thought we would make them available. Response so far has been very strong.
More importantly, Vinous is still a young business in major investment mode. Whatever the economics from the totes turn out to be they won’t move the needle in a meaningful way, but all of those resources will go back into improving our core products and services. Since we launched about 18 months ago we have redesigned our home page three times and made countless upgrades to the back-end architecture of the site with goal of improving speed, functionality and the overall user experience. That all has a cost. We now publish new material five times a week and have a site that represents the leading edge of what today’s tools are capable of delivering. And we are just getting started.
I am in London today, then headed to Piedmont, where I will have spent six weeks this year alone. That is on top of a full month in Napa Valley and countless other trips focused on tasting and critiquing the wines our customers care most about. That is and will continue to be our main focus.
I know these bags are expensive, but I liken it to a nice humidor or any other luxury product you might buy. Folks on this board regularly spend thousands per year on wine, so it’s not inconceivable that they might purchase something very nice for themselves to honor their #1 passion. And if I were to buy something of this quality, who better than from someone who is an expert and equally as passionate in wine?
Antonio
Love the site, love the regular updates, staff interaction and the multimedia aspects. The bag is a bit rich for my tastes but if you’ve had a strong response, good for you guys! Although if you come up with a ‘101 point glass by Antonio Galloni’ handmade in Baccarat crystal or something, we’re going to have to have serious words …
I’ve seen similar ones. One problem is they might not fit all bottles. Some bottles are too tall or too fat to fit in!
$1,200? Does it include two bottles of Giacosa or Conterno? I guess if you own everything else in the world you might as well buy it.
