More like the Gentaz of Cornas, since the prices are being pushed up by the fact that there ain’t gonna be any more of it. It seems a little silly that the price is exceeding the tab for the corresponding Chave vintage, but on the other hand you can find the Chave anytime you want while Verset only comes up for sale occasionally, so this isn’t total craziness. I’m not a buyer at $270 - but then again, I wouldn’t sell the ones I have left at $270 a pop either…
I can’t say I’m shocked. It makes sense in a way. If you discovered Verset too late, i.e. after retirement, what recourse do you have? There really isn’t any wines out there exactly like his and if you love them enough (and clearly have $$), I get it.
I think the parcels of vines were sold mostly to Clape, Allemand and Balthazar, but perhaps also a few others I am not remembering. Not that Allemand or Clape are cheap these days either.
