Verset getting crazy at auction...

the DRC of Cornas?

just closed 99 and 98 at Acker online…wow!!

I wish that I too could have more money than brains.

i’m sure 5730 is a mistake.

but those 99s are $270/bottle all in for the buyer.

I guess I should sell my stash of 99’s pretty soon then? That’s a lot of money.

More like the Gentaz of Cornas, since the prices are being pushed up by the fact that there ain’t gonna be any more of it. It seems a little silly that the price is exceeding the tab for the corresponding Chave vintage, but on the other hand you can find the Chave anytime you want while Verset only comes up for sale occasionally, so this isn’t total craziness. I’m not a buyer at $270 - but then again, I wouldn’t sell the ones I have left at $270 a pop either…

i’ve said that to myself about my Gentaz stash as well.

Wow. Amazing.

I can’t say I’m shocked. It makes sense in a way. If you discovered Verset too late, i.e. after retirement, what recourse do you have? There really isn’t any wines out there exactly like his and if you love them enough (and clearly have $$), I get it.

not really surprised. supply demand and collectable alert rules.

on a side note, who took over his holdings and is any other winery taking control of the facility?

I think the parcels of vines were sold mostly to Clape, Allemand and Balthazar, but perhaps also a few others I am not remembering. Not that Allemand or Clape are cheap these days either.

Dom. Courbis also got his parcel in Sabarotte.

there were a few lots in ackers most recent online auction that clearly had an extra zero attached to the bid

Salil, have you had any Balthazar?

Nope. Want to check out a few of these up and comers in Cornas (Lionnet, Balthazar, Billet, Courbis) some time in May?

Yup, I’m in. I also think we should add V. Paris to that lineup.

+1

Count me in!! I mean, you better count me in.

i have - huge pass.

even in the realm of Cornas, i feel that Verset is an outlier - much more elegant and refined, purer red fruit, etc. than more typical/classic Cornas.

Which wine from Balthazar did you have, if I may ask?

Date dependent I am interested.
