Value Italian

We had dinner at Angler last night in SF. Was delighted to see that they had a Sicilian Frappato on the menu. It was by far the cheapest bottle on the menu but we were craving Frappato and so we went for it. I had never heard of the label, TAMI. We really enjoyed the wine and when I looked this morning, I realized that TAMI is Arriana Occhipinti’s sister label. $17/bottle if you can find it.
If you like light reds, frappato is so nice in Summer.

this is a fantastic wine and a fantastic value at that price. Unfortunatley, it’s about double now but stil an excellent wine at that price.

I was happy with the 2021 A. Querciabella ‘Mongrana’ blanco [Toscana] on a hot evening with a cold Caesar salad, topped with grilled chicken. Light bodied, 12.5% abv, with 2 parts vermentino to 1 part viognier (!), which sounds odd, but works out well. It’s balanced, fresh, and just good. Sealed under DIAM3. I’d give it a B and would repurchase in future vintages. Generally the only Italian whites I would consciously make an effort to keep around would be lovely Alto Adigio ones, but this could sneak in there.

Just bought a case of 2016 Vallana Boca for around 25 Euro a bottle. Ridiculous how good these wines are.
