This thread simply confirms my belief that the best situation to drink wine in is a very small group, or from very large bottles…
I like watching a wine over an evening, fighting for an ounce strikes me as a waste of my time. I’ve been at offlines where the folks at the end of the bottle get a tiny taste of sediment (or none at all), so completely understand the desire to do something to make it more equitable.
Ha! No, that was my embarrassment for breaking another unwritten rule. Don’t NOT open the (in this case Windy Oaks!) wine that your guests have brought. Shameful! Next time we’re down let’s get together.
That’s my experience too - but it does happen (and get fixed with an “oh geez, I poured too much”), which is pretty good evidence that overpouring can happen when just eyeballing it, even among people who are not rude or inconsiderate. I wouldn’t be offended if someone were just trying to find a quick and easy way to get it right.
