I would say that the Lafarge Clos des Chênes '07 is pretty shut down still… but that is just Lafarge, not the vintage.

Last weekend I had a 2007 Chandon de Briailles Savigny Lavieres that was shut down. The bottle I had six months before that was generous and open.

I have no idea what that means for other 2007s.

We had a Volnay dinner in late December. Both the '07 D’Angerville Clos des Ducs and ‘07 Leroux Cave des Ducs were bangin’ and open for business. I preferred the D’Angerville, but not by too much.

  • 2007 Benjamin Leroux Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Cave des Ducs - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru (12/20/2017)
Glad to have a bunch of these in the cellar. This bottle was brought to a dinner by a friend, and I really liked it. In a very elegant and traditional style. Highly aromatic with just a hint of earthy funkiness woven into the red and black cherry fruit. Light-to-medium bodied with great freshness and modest intensity. In a good spot already and should hold and potentially even improve a bit from here. (92 pts.)

  • 2007 Domaine Marquis d’Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru (12/20/2017)
This is in such a great spot right now. Bright, ethereal aromatics of red cherries and herbs. The palate is similarly bright and lifted. Tons of layering and complexity. Much more interesting than an '03 served side by side. (93 pts.)

One of my favorite burgs was an '07 volnay

2007 Louis Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Carelle Sous la Chapelle… popped it for a Pinot loving buddy…b4 tasting, he glanced at the vintage and states, “2007, so u don’t like me?”…then he takes a sip and declares “oh, u def. like me.”
