UK Delivery Pitfalls in Tariff Time

A few months back, we arranged for consolidation/collection/shipping of several orders in France and the UK to be delivered to us ahead of tariffs kicking in. When everything ran according to plan and the wine arrived safe and sound a week or so ago, we breathed a sigh of relief.

Then we noticed one of the cases was the wrong wine…

Sadly, this isn’t a wine it’s easy to replace for the same price locally, nor are we planning any large scale orders in the foreseeable future. We are working with the merchant to come up with solutions and they are being helpful, so I will not mention them by name (everyone can make a mistake), just looking to share the frustration with the community, as I am sure some of you have found yourselves in a similar situation at some point.

Good luck with all your shipments folks!

Frustrating for sure. If they’ve provided you good service in the past I’d probably offer to split the tariff with them and get the wine and not fret too much. Maybe you shouldn’t have to, but as you say mistakes happen.
Good luck.

I take it the wine you can’t easily obtain is the one that didn’t make it.

What about the mistaken case? Anything you’re interested in? Will the merchant let you keep it?

Well planned. Sadly I was waiting for a bunch of EP that just came in late March, just late enough to not have enough time to ship before tariffs. Really not looking forward to paying another 10%, so for now it’s all just stuck over there.

Yes, that’s the one I was referring to. It was a matter of rosé champagne versus BdB. We have plenty of the BdB at a better price and were expecting the rosé.

Looks like we are stuck, too. It’s just too expensive ti ship a single case plus tariffs. Leaving it iver there witb CID is possible, but doesn’t fix the other issue of having possession of a case we don’t want at the going price, or even a slight discount to it. Too expensive to ship is back. The price isn’t actually bad, only so for those of us who purchased cases at first tranche and are set, so we are hoping a local client of the merchant wants to take it and we can pass along.

Whatever the solution, its a big chunk of our time now and down the line when shipping could be possible again.

Sucks when this happens and I’m sure most or all of us have. I had an order accidentally double ship to me recently. Gotta work with the winery to figure out what they want to do.

On top of everything else, it seems that US Customs is becoming a pain. I doubt that many people are shipping wine via DHL, but I imagine wine shipments by other means may also encounter delays and complications.

To be fair, it is one case out of presumably hundreds. Sure, it’s unfortunate and I can understand the frustration that no one caught it previously - the merchant obviously, CID when picking up - but I consider a few hassles par for the course when buying overseas, which is offset by the cost savings. The tariffs just complicate things, but if that’s the extent of your shipping issues, I envy you!

If anyone has wine in the UK they want to offload to some UK based people (no sales guaranteed obviously)… let meknow and I can drop you a link to Discord to see if anyones keen

You could always go on the uk wine pages forum…
