I’m a fan of the Valduero wines. I’ve enjoyed there reserva too. Are they a modern or more traditional producer?

2004 Bodegas Valduero Ribera del Duero Crianza - Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero (9/13/2009)
I really liked this wine. On the nose there were notes of smoke and vanilla as well as cherry, darker berry, and earth. It had a medium body and was well integrated and seamless. More cherry, berry, and earth on the palate. Certainly had some oak notes, but the oak was quite well integrated. Minimal tannin and integrated acidity made this an easy drink right now. -
2006 Creta Ribera del Duero Roble - Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero (9/13/2009)
I drank this beside a 2004 Valduero crianza and much preferred the Valuduero. The Creta had heavy oak on the nose with notes of vanilla and dill. The nose was also fruiter and had less of an earthy quality to it. On the palate, the Creta seems to be from the “more is more” camp. It had fruit that was a bit more vibrant, perhaps due to the more recent vintage. However, it came across as extracted. The structure was more tannin driven. Compared to the Valduero, the oak seemed unintegrated. Not a bad wine by any stretch, just not for me.
