Two More 2003 Burgs

Still delving…

1) 2003 Corton “Bressandes” (E. Cornu)
According to Da Hound, this wine shouldn’t exist.I wish he was right.
Beautiful color, ruby red with some amber at the edge.
Rich nose of beets, strawberries and face powder.
Initially, there was some deep, spicy cassis fruit with a somewhat tannic dark chocolate finish.
This was promising I thought.
But after time passed, the slightly low acid caused the wine to become cloying.
Like drinking sweet cough syrup.
Really too bad since this has such great depth of fruit and pure, ripe flavors.
It actually went OK with the Beef Ribs that accompanied it.
But I can’t recommend it to Burg-Heads. Some CA Pinot fans may like this a lot.
For me: [87+ pts]

2) 2003 Nuits St Georges “Clos des Forets” (De L’Arlot)
Mature red color with onion skin at edge. Fine plummy, cassis nose.
Rich, yet structured, tarry, chocolate cherry fruit with a long tannic licorice aftertaste.
This is a nice 2003 as it does not cross the line of overipeness thanks to it’s finely balanced acid and structure.
When the primary fruit mellows out a bit more this will be a nice Burg.
This should last and improve for several years.
One of the few 2003s that get a TTT recommendation. [91+ pts]
