Tasted these two wines over the course of two days. Phenomenal efforts from Michael Twelftree and Thomas Rivers Brown. Unfortunately, it appears that 2007 will be the last vintage of the Two Hands Napa project.
On Friday, the 2007 was basically untouchable. Nose was muted. Massive and very structured, you knew this wine would need time.
The 2006 had a beautiful bouquest on day 1 and was a very good wine. I let them breathe for a few hours, recorked them and went back to them this afternoon…
The 2006 still had an amazing nose and now a palate to match. Silky smooth, this wine was very delicious and was a pleasure to consume over the course of the day, 24 hours after opening. Many many customers preferred the 2006 to the 2007.
The 2007 was my preference, though, this had everything going for it. Still youthful on day two, the fruit had opened up, as had the nose, a little bit. Nevertheless, in the long run, this is going to an amazing wine.
Thanks Dan,
I am glad you enjoyed the wines.
They are big and really need air to slowly open up. I think it comes with the mountain fruit picked ripe, trying to tame those tannins has been our biggest challenge.
We will bottle a small amount of 2008 but I am personally looking at stepping things up in Burgundy with some new cellars and some vineyard, and you can’t be in two place at once.
Working with TRB have be awesome and I have learnt a lot

Years ago I posted on the TWA site asking for recommendations on what to do during an upcoming Aussie vacation. Michael, not knowing me from Adam, kindly gave me some advice and suggestions. He also asked for the address where I would be based. Upon arrival there was a package for me with 2 bottles of his wine. What a wonderful, generous gesture! He has a customer for life.
Welcome Mr. Twelftree and great luck with the new venture!
Michael,
Great to have another venue to look for you! And congrats on your 2007 Bella’s having a close encounter with the WS Top 10.
But Mate- the Charlie’s— I bought futures on futures of 2009 from a CA retailer-- what do you suggest I do now?

Michael,
Well, seeing your post caused me to break my monastic vows. Normally I just lurk here cutting and pasting for my new book expected to be published in 2010.
Originally titled “The Wit and Wisdom of Daniel Posner”, but running short of material near the deadline- so had to change it to “The Wit of Daniel Posner and the Wisdom of Max Marinucci”.
