Two bottles of Charles Viennot Chateauneuf du Pape 1959

This was the second bottle from a case I bought in the UK, and interestingly the two wines were somewhat different but both of very high quality.

The first bottle was light, perfumed, and very, very Burgundian, cherry and smoke still incredibly fresh and quite lovely. I am sure I could have slipped it into a Vosne tasting and nobody would have been the wiser.

The second bottle would probably not have fooled anybody. Equally good, but much denser, with a wild strawberry and musky character, some herbal notes. Much more advanced and probably needing to be drunk, but still very good.

94 for the first bottle 92 for the second. Interesting to have that much bottle variation.
