2009 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon (1/4/2012)
Kind of a weak note here but I will say I spent a lot of time just enjoying this wine. A wine that easily led me away from thinking about what was going on with it. Subtle dark aromatics of earth and a bit of bell pepper. Terrific aromatics. The palate is giving lots. Hi/medium tannin and acid really keep this fresh. For nearer term drinking, this is a hell of a Chinon. At $17 it is an outstanding value as well. (91 pts.)

2009 Charles Joguet Chinon Les Charmes - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Chinon (1/4/2012)
Interesting nose. Hi toned red fruits. This was left open for day and on the second day the fruit was still big. Maybe little to heavy for me on the nose. Not what I would expect from a Chinon. But a minor critique. The palate is marked by bright acidity and raspberry. Not what I would expect. There is structure and a vegetal element that helps show its place. Nice spice. On the second day it really started to deliver. An enjoyable wine. Potentially a nice introduction to Chinon, even if it is a bit atypical. (89 pts.)
Cheers,
Jason

Thanks for your notes, particularly on the Baudry. I drank the same wine a few weeks ago and also thought it was an excellent wine and a great value.
My note (for what it’s worth) is here: TN: 2009 Dom. Bernard Baudry Chinon - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers
Thanks for the reference points, Jason.
I love the 2009 Joguets and Baudrys that I have tried. Have not had the Charmes. Just ordered a 6-pack of the Petite Roches. Whetstone had positive notes on this QPR. I really enjoyed the '05 version.
I drank a b ottle of the baudry last week and ordered some more the next day. It’s really nice and I prefer it to les grange in 09 (though i’m happy to also have some of the latter).

Thanks for the link. Looks like we are all in agreement that this is a winner.

Thanks for the notes. I like both of these wines though I think the Baudry is a better value. But I also think the Joguets at similar price points(Cuvee Terroir & Petit Roches) to that Baudry are a notch better for my palate. The Charmes is on the simple side for a Joguet single vineyard wine. It might be nice to see if it develops more in bottle but there are certainly better wines for the money from 09. The Baudry Les Grezeaux being an absolute steal for even less money.
