Continuing my exploration of 2003 Red Burgs…
1) 2003 Morey St Denis “Les Millandes” (M.Magnien)
Medium-dark red with an amber edge.
Ripe nose of cloves, violets and spice.
Ripe, lush blackberry/plummy liquore fruit.
Too confectionery to my taste to buy, but CA Pinot fans may well love this wine as a lower octane example of a ripe wine.
It was nevertheless, enjoyable. [88+ pts]
2) 2003 Morey St Denis “Les Chaffots” (M.Magnien)
Become interested in this vineyard since Ray Walker acquired grapes from it.
Medium-dark red.
Wildly floral nose of violets and red fruits.
Truly exotic palate which follows the nose.
It’s like drinking violets with a red raspberry aftertaste.
The big difference in these two efforts was that this had better supporting acidity which kept it fresh until the last drop.
No, this is not a typical Burgundy, but it IS one hell of a luscious wine!
I bought all they had left! [93+ pts]
