Tuna Crudos and Pasta w/white Truffles @ Nostrani

Last night we went to Nostrani for another pass at tuna from Tsukiji Fish Market and white truffles from Piemonte. We arrived, were seated, and ordered our sparkling water and wine, a 2005 Marcarini Barbera d’Alba ‘Ciabot Camerano’. Its bright fruit and good acidity were very nice with our first crudo, slices of tuna loin and rich, fatty tuna belly with EVOO, pistachios, and blood orange on thin slices of fennel bulb. We had nearly finished the Barbera when the second crudo was served, so we ordered a 2000 Moccagatta Barbaresco ‘Bric Balin’. With its rich fruit and light tannins, both it and the last of the Barbera were quite good with the next crudo of a slice of Maguro, with two tuna tartares, one with toro and one with Maguro, mixed with herbs and EVOO on a base of creamy fennel. We then ordered our mains - Carollee had a Papparadelle al Forno with spicy sausage, broccoli rabe, and cream; while I had tagliarini with white truffles. Both were enjoyable with the steadily opening Barbaresco.

Then we decided to share a cookie plate for dessert. The plate had two each of: sugar cookies, chocolate with piñon nut cookies, and biscotti. Carollee had short, intense double espresso, while i had a glass of a multi-vintage Isole e Elena Vin Santo followed by a double espresso. We finished the enjoyable light dessert and headed for home.
