Tonight’s supper, out on our balcony listening to the warmups for the burning of Zozobra later tonight, was a tuna salad atop slices of very ripe, and flavorful Haas avocado, on greens dressed with a lemon-herb vinaigrette. It was a cool breezy rainy evening, but the rich tuna salad was matched well with a 2001 Ridge Syrah-Grenache (50-50 mix) Lyton Estate - barely colored cork; dark garnet in color; bright spicy berry fruit in nose & flavors; good berry mid-palate with adequate acidity; and a long spicy fruit finish -it was very nice with the salad.
Then for dessert, while watching the Zozobea celebrations on the local Gov channel, we had the best Bosc pear we’ve had for several years, perfectly ripe, great ripe flavor, and great texture, with several grappas - we started with Sarpa di Poli, which was very good with the pear. Then I had wood-aged Grappa di Sangiovese from Badia á Coltibuono and Carollee had Banfi Grappa di Brunello.
Then we watched the interviews and build-up to the actual burning, and watching he actual burning on the local gov channel.
