Tuesday's Victim

A regular customer asked if we would get them some Beckmen Vineyards Grenache and GSM, so Carrie did. He took six bottles of each, so now one of the left over 2006 Estate Grenache is to be sacrificed in the name of tasting and research. Its Santa Ynez Valley juice. Anybody familiar with it to let us know what to expect?? [dontknow.gif]

No Help? [shrug.gif] Okay, then its tasting notes.
Color deep garnet
Viscous with lots of legs.
The wine is a little cold so the nose is tight, but I get bubble gum and alcohol initially. Carrie says its too cold for her to tell yet. As it warms up a little the nose is that of the purple colored jujubes, if any of you are old enough to remember that candy. Tasting soon.

As the alcohol settles the fruit builds. Blackberry now with candy like notes.

Not yet [cheers.gif] Carrie’s got one glass

I checked tasting notes on Cellar Tracker to see how others have reviewed it. Nobody was far off on the characteristics of the wine. It was more of if it was their style or prefernce in wine. Its an enjoyable wine and I have to stick with a candy like impression. I’m not bothered by high alcohol like most people, (as far as taste, still fall down like everybody else), but I’m taken by the bright fruit the wine has. This wine obviously brings back memories (old memories) of bubble gum, jujubes, black berry and even cotton candy. Though the wine isn’t that sweet, the flavors are so reminiscent of those candies you can’t help but think of them. Maybe her eminance will post her notes when she gets done sending out tracking numbers.

Been drinking Beckmen’s Grenaches since the '99 vintage. 2006 is definitely juicier and sweeter than the previous vintages. If you want a rocker, try their Purisima Mountain Vineyard Grenache…outstanding.

Steve Beckmen and Michael Sigouin make killer wines over there at Beckmen. Good values too,.

The Purisima wasn’t available but I will be watching for it. I really like the Kaena wines as well.
This '06 Estate is certainly juicy and a bit on the sweet side, not overly but great fruit and very easy to drink, especially for the price.

I’m a fan of the Beckmen Syrahs and Grenaches - I have a bottle of this in the cellar, but have not tried it. (guess that’s why it is in the cellar!)

Randy, what will power. WAiting a whole 16 minutes (7:32P to 7:48P) for feedback before diving right in!

And in all honesty was a bit confused as to why you weren’t just popping it and posting a TN as that was your initial plan. Were you expecting one of us to talk you out of it?

LOL, I thought the same thing!

Purisima Mountain Vineyard Grenache has been my favorite Beckman offering to date.

If you have a chance, try the Beckmen Cab. I think it’s the dark horse in the line up and like it quite a bit versus the rhone stuff. Also have to agree with the note above on the juiciness of 2006 for Beckmen. Also, they went biodynamic in 2006. Cheers!

Good call. It’s nothing like a Napa cab, or any traditional CA cab, really, but very unique and enjoyable. It’s one that those who love wine can enjoy, and even the wine rookies can get into.
