2005 Tantara Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (7/28/2009)
Popped and poured, enjoyed over 2 hours. A bit hot at the outset, somewhat disjointed. After 15 minutes, a swirling caulderon of fruit and baking spices. I’m finding that holding these Santa Lucia Highlands pinots for a couple of years really allows for the sweetness & ripeness of the fruit to subside, allowing for the more subtle aspects to emerge. -
2005 Realm Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (7/28/2009)
Popped, left open for 1 hour, enjoyed over 2. Lots going on with this wine. Smooth, supple mouthfeel, nicely balanced, lots of fruit, red currants, black licorice/evergreen/mint. Really interesting and enjoyable wine that paired well with the maple roasted pork prime rib.
