Tonight’s supper, on a very warm evening, enjoyed out on our patio bar, where we could feel a slightly cooling breeze, was fresh white shrimp with a spicy horseradish sauce, six each; with a perfectly ripe Haas avocado, stuffed with a spicy crab mixture. Accompanying wine was a 2008 Proprietó Sperino Rosa del Rosa, Costa della Sesto Rosato (65 % Nebbiolo, 20% Vespolina, & 15% Croatina) - dark strawberry in color; bright red cherries in nose & flavors; barely adequate acidity; and a medium fruity finish. It did go well with the shrimp & sauce as well as with the crab & avocado. The crab had been prepared with a mixture of Tabasco and regular mayonnaise - seasoned with onion powder, celery seed, lemon peel, capers in balsamic, chervil, thyme, SI Spicy Seafood Seasoning, and a little oregano.
It made a very good supper on a very warm summer evening, while watching the hummingbirds battle for the feeder and the sun creep up the foothills.
