True TOP 100 wines of the Year lists which won't be a burden on your pocket

Serge, you don’t think LaLa’s, Giacosas, and Cheval Blancs will be a burden on your pocket?

Now THESE are ‘top 100’ lists I can follow…if only I could afford any of the wines.

From the '09 list, I have had 8 wines from the first page…yea for me.

Interestingly enough no wines from Burgundy in the first page… which clearly indicates that people who really know about wine don’t give points

If I limit this to reds then indeed most of my best memories come from regions other than Burgundy. But they are still my go-to wines when I want to put a smile on my face. So I guess I’m looking more day to day gratification (Burgundy) rather than chasing the great experience (Bdx, Rhone) - and that contrary to popular belief. The other aspect is that when not drinking Burgundy I tend to go for the best of the rest.

The problem with cellar tracker points is that they mean different things to different people. A “91” for me means an outstanding wine just short of mind blowing. For other people it seems to mean “good”. For that reason points of cellar tracker mean even less to me than points from a proffesional taster. There is no normalization.

Have you followed any of the recent debates on this board? I think it is fair to say that the first line of your post applies to EVERYONE – the professionals as well as the “regular” CellarTracker reviewers.
