Dominique Laurent 2005 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers Vieilles Vignes
A little detective work reveals that the wine in this bottle is almost certainly Jacky Truchot’s Sentiers, but since Dominique Laurent gets no respect from Burgundy purists, the price of this wine is a nice little bargain. But does it deliver a Truchot experience? Eh, not quite. It’s a suave and elegant wine and not _in_consistent with the signature slender proportions of the Truchot style, but it’s deeper in color and lacks the enticing and un-P.C. barnyard funk that makes the Truchot wines so interesting. It’s just too clean. It also, of course, has more obvious oak. It was strongly cedary at first and had me wondering how many years it might take before all that wood integrates, but fortunately it was more a matter of hours than years and the cedary taste eventually crept into the background, surfacing only on the finish. At that point it became an excellent Chambolle experience with all the elegance you expect from the appellation, and I almost forgot my disappointment that it didn’t deliver a Truchot experience too.
I find that, with time, Laurent’s wines delivers. And you are right, excellent QPR, because of no favorable reviews. Just wait for the closeouts.
Awesome - thanks for the note.
I’m a bit of a Laurent fan yet oddly I own very little, (never been right time/right place for a purchase I guess.)
Thanks for the note and the info. Sounds like a nice experience.
side note, my favorite post on the other thread was when Alexandre got the info from a reliable source and the reply was http://tiny.cc/53XpP

I have no clue what to add, but wanted to ‘pop in’ and add nothing anyway. French wine is so ‘yesterday’ anywho.
Anyone want to chat about Schrader again? At least the oak seems in line.
Thanks for the TN Keith. Mother knows best. Kind of depressing that my Burg affliction post-dates Truchot. Despite it being all about the 3 P’s in Burgundy, I’d like to make a small plug for the A&H Sigault Sentiers that Scott Wright reps…perhaps a bit “clean” compared to Truchot, but old vines and darn nice.

Hearing that brett is a hallmark of Truchot makes me less disapointed I never tried any.
FWIW, we had an 04 Laurent the other day that had a little brett.
