Trip Report: Mayacamas Vineyards

Tyler (Dr. Vino) convinced me to write up my visit to Mayacamas for his blog, and that post is now up.

I realize that folks like Pobega will hammer me for it, but I really do view the elegant style as a more successful path.

Also, they treat guests wonderfully at Mayacamas. No fee for tour / tasting, lots of excellent and specific information, very relaxed. History lesson if you want it. When I was preparing for my trip, a number of Berserkers urged me to visit Mayacamas. Thanks - we’re very glad we did.

I need to find time to read this - hectic day over here for me, but I do know how I love Mayacamas, particularly with a good amount of age on it…

Thanks for posting this Evan. The '77 is one of my top wines of all time…

Great article. I have the 70, 78 and 79 in the “Q”. (which means sometime in the next year). Last 78 I had a couple years ago was stunning. A place every wine drinker should visit- if for no other reason than to touch a piece of history.

Very nice article, Evan!

Love the Mayacamas Cabs from the 70s. I guess I should try some younger ones.

Cool article. It’s always great when the experience of visiting a place is in the same spirit as the wines themselves.

That’s a very well articulated idea.

Thanks, Evan, for the posting! Glad others here enjoyed it too.

On a related note, today fellow Berserker John Gilman today has a guest post with his thoughts about Mayacamas Cabernets, including select tasting notes from 2003 - 1968.

His tasting notes have me salivating. And I thought I liked those wines. Wow.
