The local importer sent me some samples to evaluate and my 2011s lobbed recently, so I gave a few arun. By the way the wines were drunk from the Riedel Restaurant Sommelier Burg stems, and I must say that they are the duck’s guts for red Burgs.
2009 Jadot Cote de Nuits Le Vaucrain
This is darker, brooding, a bit burly on entry but settles with gossamer fine tannins. Really lovely drinking and a steal.
2010 Jadot Bourgogne Rouge
Redder fruits, cranberries and red cherries. Fine, silky, pretty and some preffered it to the 09 CdN. Again a lovely drink.
2011 Jadot Beaune ‘Clos des Couchereaux’ 1er
Has that cool red fruit character of 2011, with slightly grainy mouthfeel. A bit simple cherry, berry at the moment, but will put on pud.
Thx for the notes and if you dug the 2009 Le Vaucrain be sure to check out the 2010 version…imho, it’s just amazing quality for the money. I’m pretty much enamored with it.
Had a 1999 Jadot Savigny-les-Beaune Clos des Guettes over the weekend that was quite good. Surprisingly dark fruited, hearty and very masculine for an SLB even from '99. Terrific aromatics of dark fruit, dark chocolate and earthiness. Very appealing. It really outperformed a '97 Bruno Clair Chambertin Clos de Beze.
Is Jadot perhaps under appreciated vis–à–vis the other major négociants like Drouhin, Bouchard, etc.? I literally have no comparative experience, but after reading many a thread on Burgundy over the years this would seem to be the case.
…
(fyi, I’ve enjoyed, purchased and currently cellar négociant wines from Jadot, Drouhin, Bouchard and others)
Thanks for your comments Alex - I’ll grab a few 10 Vaucrains to take a look at.
Jadot is not underappreciated in my house, and is always relatively easy to procure. I buy precious little Bouchard & Drouhin for some reason.
I do tend to purchase Faiveley however in most vintages.
