Tried Della Notte in Balto for first time

My GF and I really enjoyed Della Notte (http://www.dellanotte.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) last evening. And she’s a picky vegetarian / self-taught chef that isn’t easy to please restaurant food-wise. The restaurant was not busy, yet the wine list was one of the very best I’ve seen in Balto, at least for Italian. The owner apparently is a wine fanatic; I believe it. Admittedly, my command of Italian wines is limited but a “Were Dreams” Jermann 2006 and a VALTELLINA SUPERIORE “sfursat” RAINOLDI, 1999 both rang our bells and were about 2x or slightly less than 2x retail. GF had home-made minestroni and home-made ravioli stuffed with cheese while I had Melanzone Timbolo and Medaillions of swordfish over mashed potatoes with sauteed mushrooms. Their sauteed scallops were also delish.

They even offer curbside pick-up drop-off service downtown. So if you find yourself in Balto hankering for a nice wine list with some less-well-known offerings, check it out. Ken, the food may have improved !

This is at a place in Baltimore called Della Notte. It used to have great wines at great prices (which is why we had several dinners there). The food wasn’t very good, so we joked that it was the only BYOF restaurant. Now the prices for wine have gone way up, so we stopped going there. But the atmosphere is a Guido’s wet dream.

Thanks for the note. della notte is on my list of places i have been meaning to go but never seem to make it. sounds like i should give it a shot

The wine lists they post on line aren’t identical to those in-house. But they’re good enough to refine your focus about what seems tempting and not terribly over-priced. The manager/somm? Daniel explained that in the past, their carryout policy was unfortunately being taken advantage of. I don’t blame either side. [truce.gif]
