Trade Flight Upgrades for Wine

I have some upgrades good on United Airlines for Domestic or International Travel, expiring 2/28/2014. If you are planning a vacation or business travel from the US to International, these make the trip a lot more comfortable.

PM me with interest and I can give details. Usually look to trade for wine or cash.

PM sent

Happy I was able to help a Berserker out on a Chicago to Paris flight! 2 down, 4 still available…

Still have a couple of these left, have upgraded four flights to/from Paris for fellow Berserkers…

Beuller? Beuller? Anyone?

Sent you pm

If Scott runs out, I have some available.

Just out of curiousity, whats a ballpark value on these? Flying to Paris and back next week and might be nice to surprise the wife.

Can’t speak for OP, but you can see what they trade for here (look for “RPU” (domestic and north America) or “GPU” (any international).

GPUs seem to be valued in $350-500 range (judging by value of traded items), although value really depends on how much it’s worth to you and how much it would cost to buy a business class ticket instead. In other words, a bit like wine.

Unless you’re a member of Flyertalk, and have a minimum number of post, and a certain amount of time logged, you won’t be able to read the link above.

The value varies based on when the certs expire. I’ve seen them go for a song with just a few weeks left. On average, $300 value per cert (good for one-way travel).

just out of curiousity. How does a flight upgrade work from someone else? Do they call it in and get your flight upgraded? is it a guaranteed upgrade? sorry for the noobness!

you give them flight booking info.
they call in and upgrade you.
guaranteed… as guaranteed as it gets unless you get bumped (see united strikes again thread)

If I get bumped will you guys give me my wine back. [snort.gif] [snort.gif]

bumped from flight = wine corked

jokes aside, i’m not sure if you upgrade with a GPU, you can be bumped at all. it may be kind of like you paid for a biz class seat.
the more veteran United folks can tell ya… i think getting bumped are ‘free’ upgrades…

It can happen, but it’s fairly rare. You are treated as if you’d bought the seat and you usually get some compensation.

For people less familiar with how these upgrades work, generally you have to buy a ticket in a certain fare class or above (W), which rules out use on deep discount economy tickets. Sometimes there is space available immediately to upgrade, in which case when OP (or someone) requests the upgrade it will “clear” immediately, and you have your business class seat. If there is not space available, it may or may not become available before the flight and you are put on a waitlist. In many instances, the waitlist remains in place until a few hours before the flight, when United sees how many business class seat remain available. Then they start assigning them based on frequent flier status and the fare paid.

There is a tool called Expertflyer that will allow you to see if upgrades are available. Best used on things like a flight to Asia or Europe. For the American ones, it must be on AA metal, not a partner airliine.

Will trade AA upgrades for grand cru Dujacs.
