I see what you are saying but I do think a lot of consigners who just want to get rid of a bunch of wine will still include some lower priced bottles. Not many people churn lower priced bottles of wine. It is more a function of you end up with them. I am currently paying storage on a bunch of wine I need to get rid of that honestly I would be happy to give away to save the storage costs.
Will see what happens over time, it will surely be interesting to follow.

I’ll take em

Winebid was really great for me in my early years of exploring (5ish years ago), as someone with limited funds being able to try stuff with age or that would be impossible to find in my market for very cheap was amazing. Reading through this thread makes me realize that I actually missed the boat for the most part, but glad I’ve had some great bottles

I’m sure there are plenty of folks here willing to help you with your storage problem haha

I wonder if a different player will step in to fill the gap.
I think the demand is there. Love many wines at this price point. And completely agree with Robert’s point, about people wanting to make room and happy to just move stuff.

Maybe it’s worthwhile to put a list together and toss it into commerce corner or send some messages to people here who seem interested?
I’m sure some money could be recouped or at the very least people would be happy to pay shipping and the wine could end up in a happy new home.
I’d be happy to look through some lists!
I would kindly ask buyers not to lowball or negotiate on bottles $25 and under. Maybe add in a 3 bottle minimum with $5 per bottle shipping. This would be a wonderful way to pass these bottles to newer winos that want to explore.

The time and hassle associated with packaging a bottle or few at a time is not to be understated. I just paid about $80 to ship 5 bottles from Los Angeles to the state immediately to our north — and that was the cheapest option available. And between packaging, labelling, and driving to and from the third party carrier we’re looking at no less than 1 hour of time. Big lots, preferably with local pickup, is the way to go here.

You can’t really lowball or negotiate on Winebid.
I think he was referring to Robert’s private collection
Apologies if this sounds preachy, but I think it is a fairly common situation for wine collectors to have a bunch of random wines they are no longer interested in and are not worth the hassle/expense of selling. I think Winebid is bringing the reality economics into it. Although, if they raised the minimum fee, they must have lowered other fees, right?

Joe, I think the increased cost of shipping is surely taking its toll on the trading of less valuable bottles. Perhaps a local wine enthusiast could host a swap meet in a local city for an opportunity to trade off some of these wines?

A local swap would be so much fun

Be careful what you ask for
This is a great idea. The Big Berserker Bottle Exchange; coming to NYC, LA, Chicago, etc…

If any of those happen to be 2022 or older Ludes, fan #1 right here.
Definitely. Like I mentioned earlier, some of the best bottles (or most interesting, at least) were $15 bottles I would not have bought if more than $15. At that price, even if it’s junk, you don’t really mind.
I suggested to somebody at Winebid they should offer a tier of lower-priced wines, at a low(er) commission that isn’t inspected. Buyer beware, and all that.
