Tour de France, Cheese, & Sauternes

Last night after our enjoyable lunch at Maria’s, we decided to have some cheese and Sauternes while watching Stage 12 of the TdF. The 1988 Lafaurie-Peyraguey was rich white and yellow fruit, with some acidity, little sweetness, and a long complex finish. It was quite good with Bleu d’Auvergne, Old Chatham Sheeps’ Milk blue, Old Chatham Sheeps’ Milk Camembert, & Affinois Sheeps’ Milk Brie. It was very enjoyable on a warm Summer evening, while watching the interesting race.

Dick, I had that sticky on News Year Eve 2000. One of my first Sauternes experiences and I remember it fondly…was a very good bottle to cut my teeth on.

Nine and half years later and it’s still very good. I think we still have at least one bottle left.

It has years and years, maybe a decade or 2, ahead of it. No rush. Thanks for having me over!
