Anyone else ever heard of this tradition? Not a bad one, especially considering my wife’s birthday is this weekend.
I like the dumbed-down instructions for handling old bottles. I wonder how many people have a '29 Lafite that’s been sitting on top of the fridge for 10 years…
Mine happens to be a magnum. ![cheers [cheers.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/0/0ff9bfcdb0964982cd3240b6159868fbdf215b1a.gif)
I think its a really nice thing. I don’t pay much attention as we usually open nice bottles on a Saturday night, but I know a lot of people who save that special wine for the perfect occassion.
Thanks for the link.
I was toying with the idea of opening a 1990 Gonon St. Joseph… I think the decision was just made for me.
Perfect! I am conducting a tasting tomorrow night & some of the bottles will fit right in!
Wonderful. I am going 81 LdH Vina Bosconia. I have one left.
Been doing this with friends for years - kind of a wine and food potluck with about half geeks and half non-geeks. All us geeks have more bottles we wish to share than we have weekends together and the non-geeks usually hold “special” bottles far too long. It is more about sharing the story than the age/quality/rarity of the wine. It is always a great time. We are actually thinking of doing it at least every couple months because it is so much fun and getting to share those “special” bottles.
