Tomato Soup, Salame, and Monte Vertine

Tonight’s light supper, between last night’s indulgence and tomorrow at Maria’s, was tomato soup, garnished with a chiffonade of basil and Tuscan EVOO, with Fra’Mani Salumetto Gentile and Piccante with black and green olive pastes. Wine was a light but tasty 1996 Monte Vertine Riserva - dark garnet in color with a thin light edge; light, earthy cherry in nose and flavors; balanced cherry mid-palate with ok acidity; and a medium earthy fruit finish. It was enjoyable with the soup and salame. The green olive paste was better with the piccante and the black with the gentile. No dessert tonight, we just finished the wine while watching rainy Stage 2 of the Tour of California (via TiVo).
