After what has been, to my recollection, 9 years, it was wonderful to spend a couple hours with Bill and his wife Suzanne–and to play on their fine piano! We got caught up, talking wines, cars, politics, travel and…well…life. Thanks so much, Bill, for your time and company.
1995 A. Chopin NSG Aux Murgers
We wandered down to Bill’s cellar and this bottle was sitting on the up-to-bat counter 
Since I’d brought a NSG of my own, seemed a great opportunity to do a comparison. Never had this producer before. Burnished red. Swirly strawberry, cranberry and crabapple scents. Lovely taste replays and smooth as anything, a really polished example from the commune. I could drink this all day. Thanks Bill!
2004 Chateau Musar
Nice aroma of earth, drying plum and spices. Blast of red plum and quite sweeter than I’ve had before, but it fits very nicely. I do like it. Bill and I discuss what this would be blind. We have a difficult time. Cote Rotie? Washington Merlot or Syrah? Regardless it’s very good, with another 10 years to go at least. No VA on this one at all.
2022 Henri Gouges NSG Les Chaignots
Naturally fairly primary still. Earth, bit of chestnut. Dark berry base. It has solid presence and some strawberry/raspberry freshness but everything still needs to integrate. Underlying quality is clearly there. A touch of warmth at the back, enough for me to check—14%
