TNs: Wine dinner with Malaysian friends and a new-school Burgundy tasting

Oh, just saw the note on the 89 Lenoir.
I think half the bottles have cork taint . . .

As a recent tasting with @LasseK proved, I don’t really detect cork taint…
Last time I opened this with a whole kitchen team sharing sips from a large pour to them was no taint. No brett party as Melvin writes, so I think it’s just all over the place with this vintage. I have one more in the cellar.

Great notes as always, Melvin. The only Cacheux I’ve ever had was one I bought in Singapore. From 2017 in Atlanta:

2005 J. Cacheux Vosne Romanee Aux Reas

I brought this, and it’s been on a bit of a journey, as I bought it in Singapore 8 years ago. I was plenty happy with this, it takes a bit in the glass to release some tea and soy notes to go with touches of leather, mocha and dark cherry and plum. Replays with some length, less of the perfumey side, no doubt there’s a modernity to the style, but it’s focused and lithe and has excellent carry. Glad it showed reasonably well.

Clonakilla does make fairly elegant Shiraz. Had this one a little over a year ago.

2018 Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier

A co-ferment I believe and 5% or so added—I’ll try to check. I brought this as I am under the impression that Aussie reds are still somewhat difficult to get out here…and we were having steak. This is from a hot year and it shows a little bolder than I’m used to, but I was happy with this. There is a dash of eucalpytus swirling through deep plum and sweet raspberry notes. A little chocolate joins the palate later in the evening. Sturdy finish

I’ve been mildly curious about the Cassiopee wines and very glad to have your impressions on those.
