TNs: Two Young Italians

Montepeloso Eneo 2006:
I have been a big fan of these guys for a few years. The '04s were very good and I drank a lot of Eneo (only a few bottles of Nardo!) last year. After reading Antonio’s report I decided to find a few of these to see how the '06s compared. Needless to say '06 is a fascinating vintage. Powerful and rich, dense and brooding, this wine came out fighting. Packed with dark cherries and black plums, minerals and earthiness, and a finish that lingers with hints of toasty oak, chocolate and prune. This is an excellent wine that is nowhere near ready but excellent to play around with anyway. Can’t wait to try it again in five more years. 91 points

Ciacci Piccolomini d Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso 2004:
Nearly impossible to assess for the first two hours in the glass- save perhaps the color and the nose. Hour four- there is so much here, incredible depth, amazing aromas wafting off the glass, overall purity. But . . . its just a beast. What is here, and is possible to really grasp is going to be great. Succulent black fruits, freshly ground spices, minerals, tar, violets and smoke- each “ingredient” layered together perfectly. Might have to try another one at the end of the year but otherwise I might wait five or six years. 94 points

I’d go ten on that Brunello if you can…

Thanks for the note on the Eneo John, have a couple put away that I’m looking forward to [whistle.gif]

Booyah for Ciacci… I have a case of 04 Pianrosso coming and still wish I’d bought more than 8 01’s… my 2nd favorite to Costanti, but only by a hair. 04 was the first year I went case deep on some Brunelli w/o having tasted first (Ciacci, Costanti, Pertimali, Poggione)…

Thanks for the notes John. '04 is my wedding year and I’m trying to figure out which '04 Brunello’s to squirrel away with my somewhat limited wine budget. The Ciacci seems like one to check out.
