TNs: Two Pinots- Pisoni Estate '03, Littorai Hirsch '06

Pisoni Pinot Noir Estate 2003:
Rich and savory, with ample amounts of black raspberries, plums and dark, sappy cherries. Some charcoal/smoke is mixed in, as is a touch of purple flowers, spices and earth. Probably my favorite domestic Pinot Noir from this vintage. 93 points
Littorai Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard 2006:
Much lighter bodied than the Pisoni, with a smaller concentration of red and yellow plums, cherries and crushed strawberries. Bits of white pepper, rose petals and pine cones are evident too. Not my favorite example of this wine but still nice. 89+ points

The Pisoni Estate is damn fine that year. A big styled wine but well done for the style.

How does the Pisoni estate compare to other producers bottlings of Pisoni?

Its the best . . IMO.

I concur. Siduri also does a good job. Arcadian makes a much different one. The others have been mixed for me. It’s Estate #1, Siduri #2. Both are usually better with a few years in the cellar also.

If you like them in a bigger style Pisoni estate is probably the best. Arcadian, for my palate, is the best.

Totatly agree on the Littorai. I too was disappointed both times I’ve tried it in the past couple months.

On the Littorai, aren’t you opening the '06 way too soon? 2006 may not be Littorai’s strongest vintage, but I’ve found their Pinots, especially the single vineyard designates, need around 4-5 years after release to really shine.

What’s the point of owning a wine for four or five years if you haven’t tasted it first? If I am going to invest in another bottle I want to make sure my investment is sound.

Of course I mean “drinking investment” FWIW.
