TNs: Two Bjornstad 06s

  • 2006 Bjornstad Chardonnay Porter-Bass Vineyards - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (10/2/2009)
13.6% alcohol. Strikingly rich yellow color, which contrasted starkly with the lightness and elegance of the wine on the nose and palate. Bouquet of citrus oil, pear, and apple, with a mineral streak to it. In the mouth, light on its feet, with this lovely citrus focus to the fruit flavors. It was a refreshing undertone that woke up the entire palate. Strong acidity that brought out a great deal of complexity. Long finish that shows a touch of oak, but this is hardly the usual oaky California Chardonnay. Beautifully done. A-
  • 2006 Bjornstad Pinot Noir Hellenthal Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (10/2/2009)
14.4% alcohol. Dark red color. Rich nose of earth, black cherry, blackberry, and spice. In the mouth, quite plush but focused and balanced. The fruit is masked a touch by prominent earthy notes, and there is strong acidity. Solid finish. Youthful but drinking well. Plush and enjoyable. B+

Nice Tom. Been doing a bit of drinking lately?
I had that Chard once over the summer…very well done.
Need to try their pinots.

I have wine. I can drink. …

I have to say that Greg does an amazing job with Chardonnay. They are completely underrated and tremendous values.

Tom,
Two things:
First, your notes are well written and helpful - you have become a “must click” on my visits to Berserkers.
Second, are your notes archived on your blog? Do they appear there at all? I was unable to find anything except food related articles.
Best, Jim
