TNs: Three Zins

  • N.V. Scherrer Winery Zinfandoodle 6.7 - USA, California (1/8/2010)
14.5% alcohol. This has Scherrer stamped all over it. Juicy fruit that has a refined mouth feel and a terrific, complex backbone. Pleasing in the mouth, with a great sense of style and elegance. A-

15.2% alcohol. Popped and pouring and rocking right from the start. Brambly black fruit, a hint of oak, and plenty of creamy-tinged minerals. In the mouth, pure, focused, and concentrated. Youthful, but this is drinking very well. Strong acidity. Long finish. Delightful, as all the Carlisle 2007s have been. A-

What is the 6.7 in the name of the Scherrer zin? Some code???

I have a vague recollection that it’s because it’s a blend of 2006 and 2007 wines … but I’m not positive of that. May need Mike Dildine to help with this one

Stating the obvious I guess, but…

I love that Carlisle does a Papera Ranch bottling now. The Carlisle vineyard is the old Peletti Ranch. Classic old zin is in very good hands.
