TNs: Tenuta dell Terre Nere 09 Caldera Sottana & Santo Spirito

Notes taken after about 7 hours in the glass. These were much less generous upon pouring.

Both Crus have compelling noses, with things that remind of of a pinwheel of Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and Pinot Noir. The Caldera Sottana is a touch more floral - think violets, while the Santo Spirito is a little more exuberant and spicy.

The flavor profiles are very different - Caldera Sottana is watermelon, strawberry and pomegranate - the acidity is elevated and brisk. The Santo Spirito is a little more generous and round, with more strawberry and red cherry fruit- it seems “riper,” though without the more minerally Caldera Sottana by its side I’m sure I would be raving over its freshness. Both have the aromatic complexity of a top black tea. Hard to say which I prefer. The floral notes in the nose also show in the mouth. I think I give the Santo Spirito the nod for the moment - it is a bit more generous now, though I am very curious to see where these head with some time in the cellar.
