TNs: Swan, Chandon, Sojourn

  • N.V. Domaine Chandon Étoile Rosé - USA, California (12/28/2009)
12.0% alcohol. Reddish-pink color. Very attractive nose of red cherry, yeast, and minerals. In the mouth, surprisingly cherry-fruited, with great raciness and purity. A linear wine that is refreshing and slightly tart. Bright acidity and a solid finish, smooth and lingering. Delightful at a discounted price, if not really worth a $50 price tag. A-
  • 1999 Joseph Swan Vineyards Zinfandel Mancini Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (12/27/2009)
13.9% alcohol. This wine just goes on and on. It never really showed well until age 5 or 6. Now it shows no signs of quitting. Still a dusty red cherry color. No hints of bricking. Soaring bouquet of cherry, spice, minerals, and earth. In the mouth, so alive and racy, it’s almost like having a cold finger trace down your spine. Bright red fruit, spice, and bright minerals lead to a strong acidic kick. Strong finish. Just a terrific wine that will continue to age. A-
  • 2007 Sojourn Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (12/27/2009)
14.3% alcohol. Going strong, as with past bottles. Black cherry, blackberry, and baking spice. Sumptuous, rich mouth feel with nice texture. The fruit is forward, with good spice and acidity. Very solid quality all around. A-
