TNs--something new, plus 2007 Doisy Daene

2010 Ferruccio Sgubin Ribolla Gialla

I’ve had the Gravner Breg a long time ago, but never a straight version of this grape variety. Very little on the bouquet, maybe a metallic or wet stone side with very faint hints of lemon and unripe apple. The palate is quite interesting, somewhat sharp at the front, but has some viscosity in the middle and finish at the back. I almost want to describe it as a cross between a Loire Chenin and one of those Vina de Tondonia aged Spanish whites. Certainly, there are elements of lemon, marzipan and an almost sweet-and-sour nuance all playing around with slight sultana raisin at the very back. Interesting stuff for sure.

2007 Chateau Doisy-Daene

This is simply excellent value. Already bright citrus and pineapple get up le nez. Palate has a delightful crispness about it, but with good controlled sweetness to honeyed apple, pineapple and low-level apricot. Botrytis is quite light. The freshness here is delightful, and I get the feeling this is one 2007 which will be open throughout its life. I have a few more, but now thinking I wish I had a case more.

Hi Mike. I’ve not had the 2007 Doisy-Daene.

Are you impressed by it on a QPR basis or do you think it is a top 2007 (a great Sauternes/Barsac year)? (Either way, I might try and track one down …).

Cheers, Howard

It is a very solid wine in a great year. Harder to say “top”, but 2nd echelon maybe? Excellent QPR.

Thanks Mike, as I say I’ll try and track one down to try. I’ve tried, liked and bought it other years so, as a 2007, definitely worth seeking out!
