A solid group of wines. I have to give a shout to Larry for his Tercero stuff … they just are so much darn fun to drink. I’m going to have to get more before long. He is doing good things that are worth a look.

2006 Landmark Pinot Noir Grand Detour - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (6/8/2009)
14.4% alcohol. Hard to resist this wine. It’s got a beautiful red and black cherry nose, with a bit of baking spice. In the mouth, quite sumptuous, with fat red and black fruit, along with good acidity and a strong finish. Overall, perhaps it lacks a touch in complexity, but it is so juicy and enjoyable, it’s hard to beat. A- -
2007 Joseph Swan Vineyards Pinot Gris Trenton Station Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (6/6/2009)
14.6% alcohol. Light yellow color. Slightly reticent bouquet of stones, apple, and pear. In the mouth, quite rich and serious, with good fruit and a light kiss of acidity. B+ -
2006 Tercero Syrah Tierra Alta Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (5/31/2009)
15.5% alcohol. Big, brooding style of Syrah here. Ripe blueberry on the nose, with a hint of earth and spice. In the mouth, voluptuous and surprisingly well structured, with good acidity to go with the ripe fruit. Solid finish with a touch of heat. Quite enjoyable. B+ -
2004 Arcadian Pinot Noir Gold Coast - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley (5/28/2009)
14.9% alcohol. This surprised me. A ripe and open-knit 2004, but one that has good structure and is showing very well. Light cherry color. Aromatic, funky bouquet that is filled with red cherry fruit. In the mouth, quite plush but retaining a linear sensibility. Bursting with fruit, a touch of spice, and a fair bit of earth. Strong acidity and a solid finish. B+/A- -
2006 Tercero Mourvedre Camp 4 Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (5/28/2009)
14.4% alcohol. Interesting shift from the first bottle. This had a distinct cranberry note to the nose and palate. No bitterness, only plush and quite ripe and assertive. Well-balanced and nicely fruity. Definitely an enjoyable drink, with a slightly short finish. Solid juice. B+/A- -
2007 Gary Farrell Sauvignon Blanc Redwood Ranch - USA, California, Sonoma County (5/28/2009)
13.8% alcohol. Last bottle and continuing to show well. The texture of this wine is its most endearing feature. The fruit is showing a little fraying, with slightly more prominent grass notes. Soft acidity leads to a soft finish. Nicely done. B+/A- -
2008 Brancott Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Reserve - New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough (5/24/2009)
12.5% alcohol. One of the best SBs I’ve had in a long time. Always a standby wine, the 2008 is something special. Tropical profile, with a mineral edge to it. Juicy and bursting with fruit. Superbly refreshing, with a terrific kick of acidity. Long finish. At less than $15, this is one to stock up on for the summer. A-/A
